CPP only reminds Ghanaians of the horrible and abominable past when Nkrumah treated Ghana as his personal property and ruled with fear and terror. Now no more one-party state, President for life without a Vice President and killing of political opponents in prison without trial.
While Ghanaians wallowed in poverty, squalor and slums Nkrumah gave 10 million pounds each to his cronies Sekou Toure of Guinea and the President of Mali as bribes to make him Preident for Africa for life. The best thing that has ever happened to Ghana was the overthrow of Kwame nkrumah the murderous tyrant

Help save Ghana Mr. Economist. where were you when every Ghanaian is selling and buying ecerything in Ghana in dollars when our medium of exchange is GHANA CEDI. Can you tell Ghanaians why we have Dollar ($), British Pound Bank Accounts. Why people have to pay dollars for their children school fees, including hotels and houses. Even Canada and Mexico don't use the US dollar like Ghanaians, thus the downfall of the economy with incompetent people. you don't need a PHD to know what is wrong with us.

On external factors like slump in produce and gold revenues that are manipulated to blackmail us by foreign forces has to be identified as a war fare and then be shock proofed through value added mechanism, something that we knew about of which other governments had fallen victim to since Nkrumah but at the same time, we deferred all the right things we knew we could do to avoid all the traps.

After all this is the real mind that Ghana needs, because they were all educated and trained with the resources of Ghana so why do we choose to do it better for other nations, but when it comes to our own nation then the spirit of division and hatred takes over so that we leave our loving nation to crumble leaving the future of children and ours together down the drain.
I thank the matured minded economist Dr Nii Moi Thompson for teaching the whole nation of our loving responsibilty for Ghana and thus proving that he came from a good home, where besides his gained education his parents trained him to be responsible as well as defending his basic righful decisions.
Frankly speaking this is what Ghana has been wishing to see her citizens doing to save her from the pit. It is time that the politicians would be trained and get educated from the morality that Dr Thompson had shown.
In reality it is naturally said that politics is morality. As understood by rational people politics is an art or science of taking care of a nation's development for its people.
The said matured economist at this stage had proved his qualities as a true patriotic citizen of Ghana ever ready to serve his motherland. I salute you Ataa Nii Moi for your perfect love for Ghana.
I believe this your wonderful and matured decision taken could one day become an eye opener for other politicians, that as a developing nation we rather need to work with a mind of unity for the progress of our nation than of division based on the low Ghanaian mentality of village oriented and less matured political knowledge, and yet people call themselves politicians.

This man, Dr. Thompson, like he said, is going to be collecting his monthly allowances and salary and that's it. He's not going to bring about any change in the way the economy is managed.
I seriously can't trust technocrats who spend their entire career working for governments. There's a reason why they chart such career courses...THEY ARE AVERAGE!

Who does not understand that "low productivity and low production paired with high consumption and an expanding appetite for imports" is unsustainable, and a veritable recipe for disaster? Apparently, most of the ever insulting commentators who frequent this website scarcely understand and appreciate the connection between low productivity, high consumption, unnecessary imports and our economic crisis. I agree with Dr. Nii Moi Thompson's call that it is time to change course.
One suggestion I wouldn't hesitate to make is we should end immediately the urban bias. Our rural population far exceed our urban population; they feed the urban populace, produce the bulk of raw materials, but they get paid the least. They don't have the voice, they don't count politically; our political system and economic system have inbuilt urban bias which is colonialist and neocolonialist and essentially unsustainable, even under Nkrumah and Busia.
The way to end this urban bias is to encourage return to the rural areas - launch a massive rural electrification programme, allow our educated chiefs a modicum of authority, permit statutory individual tenure so that people returning from urban back to their villages can become landholders, and open a slew of rural banks for individual farmers to get access to loans. The structural transformation should definitely be value-added agriculture, food sufficiency, cottage manufacturing, and green-import substitution. Our productivity must increase leaps and bound, our consumption must be home-grown products and buy our high-quality, green import-substitutes.
And I believe this will be our recipe for a sane, humane, and ecological economy.
