I have passed through major airports and have had no problems changing US $ into transient or final destination's currency. Ghana has a problem because the leaders have bitten more than they can swallow and are restricting commerce and free enterprise. If they had executed proper policies instead of borrowing and chop chop, the cedi would have appreciated and probably worth more than the dollar. Pure supply and demand and if u deny it, it will come back and bite u. The British pound is of more value than the $. Govt's job is to encourage free enterprise and not to restrict it

In as much as I agree that Cedis should be used in Ghana, there should be great caution as far as hospitality industry is concerned. Tourists visit for experience. If I arrive at the airport, get to my hotel day or night where should I get cedis to use? Until there are adequate measures to make the change of currency painless other currencies should be used in hospitality business. If I am not happy I will not return. We all complain and lambast the president as being inefficient, lazy, lack ideas to all sorts of personal insults. But when the government or its agency comes out with a directive that affects some segment of our society, they complain about how that will affect the economy. Which economy are they talking about? We need to stop the complaints and step up to the plate to clean out the mess created by us Ghanaians. Hotels, Real estates, private companies, and gov't organizations should all comply.

The only legal tender in Ghana is the Cedi. Any foreigners operating business in Ghana as well as Ghanaian businessowners must respect the laws of the country. There is no where in UK that hotels are allowed to charge any currency apart from sterling, in the US only dollar is accepted and in Europe the Euro is the only legal tender. If these hotel owners want to charge $ then they must move their business to USA. We are complaining bitterly about the fall in the value of the cedi but we ready to assist foreigners to transact business in Ghana in dollars indirectly increasing demand for the $ resulting to decrease in the value of the cedi. We Ghanaians are our own enemies for our own problems - our taste for everything foreign is so bad and needs to be changed and the time to do it is now. Lets put politics aside and face reality.

"According to them, the hospitality industry has over the years contributed immensely to the generation of revenue and therefore it should be exempt from the new directives."
Maybe it was the person who wrote this story - Ghana journalists too, but that's another story. There isn't even a single point made to try to defend why hotels should be allowed to quote prices in $.
So if a corrupt politician says, i should be allowed to do my thing because i have made money and paid taxes to gov't, should we allow them. The desire to charge prices in $ is simply a selfish, self-profiting agenda by the hotels. Your business will not die because you price in Cedis. You will probably make less/marginal losses in currency conversion, but all your costs (labor, utlities, etc) are in Cedis, so why do you need to be paid in dollar denominations.
With GPHA at least, we can see how they would spend the actual $ in activities overseas, but hotels...?
