With all due respect, I'm not in Ghana, and I don't know first-hand what the political climate feels like over there. I can only surmise.
If what I'm reading from this article is correct, I'm proud to say that, it sets me up in hope for Ghana's political future. Any sustainable multiparty politics thrives on contentions.
Let's consider the history of the early days of party politics in the United States, -- i.e., the days of the presidency of Thomas Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson muscled out the opposition to the extent that the United States more or less became a one party state, -- notwithstanding the existence of an opposition party. This went on for many years until Martin Van Buren succeeded in rallying the opposition into power. Hence was the beginning of the contentious multiparty politics we are trying to practice today in Ghana, and all over the world.
What is missing in our multiparty politics is proper leadership from the president. The president needs to jump ahead of the country, set the agenda, and call on the parties to debate his agenda in parliament.
Because the president is not exercising this kind of tight leadership, he has created a vacuum for politicians with self-serving intensions to fill with their no-good agenda.
Being the president in a true multiparty democracy, -- that we are aspiring to become -- is not easy.
It is not a hands off position.
It requires technocratic governance; less the opposition would undermine the president.
Unfortunately this is exactly what is happening in Ghana today. It must change.
Let's work together for the sake of our country. The stakes are too high, and time is not on our side.
The president must set the proper tone for the political and socio-economic policies, -- domestic, and foreign -- of the country. He must close the vacuum, and compel the opposition to co-operate with him.
May Lord Almighty continue to bless our beloved Great Ghana:
Amen!!!

The route cause of this situation lies on the shoulders of Mr Rawlings. The rivalry between CPP and UGCC was always there untill Rawlings came to the political scene. In all his alomst twenty years rule, all he did was try to set one tribe against another tribe, even out of Government he is still on this crusade always trying to be a champion of the Ewe cause, and it is sad that even intelligent Ghanaians have accepted this nonsense, labelling the NPP as an Akan Party,as if Akans are not Ghanians. All because of corruption.
Untill we educate our people to understnd that politics is all about the wellbeing of the people, and nothing else,it will be very difficult to cut this tribal thing out of our body politics.

It is not too late tell the NDC to also listen to the other Parties and stop coming out to confuse the public.
That is what your party leaders have been advised to do ( I was informed by my friend who used to be a Minister from the NDC.) Be honest and stop your outmoded Soviet style propaganda, that can't take us anywhere.

Walk the talk - Yes, it is because of the collective good..I will like to point out only one section that goes contrary to what this man is saying. If it is for the collective good, why is it that they have stopped or refused to complete the projects that were started by the previous administration for the collective good of the people of Ghana, specifically completing the roads projects: Kumasi-Accra road that is claiming numerous lives? Common sense shows completing ongoing projects before starting a new one is the way to go. We need to learn to agree to disagree that it is not about one party but for the common good: saving lives, creating jobs, building infrastructures. That is the way to go so Mr. Bagbin please tell your government in power to complete the ongoing developmental projects that were left by NPP. It is not the party that benefits but the people. "A word to the wise is enough"

He is only beginning to realize reality when he and his useless office are being starved, and rightly so, by Mahama. Bagbin , or what , may be right for saying these words and i think it is very engouraging that the truth and the big lies are all coming out when some in our society were bunt on binding the truth about all that happened some years back in our beloved Ghana, by then.
I was young when all these evil acts were going on. I could read becauces i have always loved reading so even as a young mind i saw that there were people in our society who were evil and i think what i thought then was proved right .
After 1966, nothing in our land has been right. It is all full of shit talk but no action, because we as a people did not see the leader who was to carry us to the promised land as the JEWS did to MOSES.
We had evil people who thought if it was not them then there must be no peace and who can tell me that these people are still not trying hard to prove themselves. But with time they are failing fast each coming years, for by thier fruits even the yet unborn will know them .
As long as a part of us think mother Ghana, is them and evrybody is a stranger, we will not know or see the promise land.
So our leaders must stand up against the evil of tryig to say this one is this and this one this but live as a unit and support whoever is leading the country to make it great and strong.

Recently, one of the pastors in Ghana commented that Ghana is not a Christian nation. He was 100% right. But as a Christian I cannot help but use a Christian analogy. Has things gone terribly wrong in Ghana since March 1966 (or even prior to that as some people claim)? The answer will be a resounding 'Yes'. Things got even more grim after the Rawlings coup of June 1979. I was a student at Legon. I know all about the "let the blood flow" and the nonsense about Rawlings being the redeemer and the "house cleaning". We have come a long way since then. There was a time when Paul was known as Saul. As an attorney, there are times when I have gone to court and sought to make my client's case by reiterating a long history of the case and how we have ended up with a mess. On one occasion, the Judge gave me a long time to make a presentation. He then asked me, "Counsel, what do you propose going forward?". It then hit me that I have not really prepared for that question. So we can talk about mismanagement, brutality, corruption ,etc. But have we sought to plan a path going forward? We don't have to forget the past. He who forgets the past is bound to repeat the mistakes. But we have to move forward. The question is "Where do we go from here?". Military coups have been our worst enemy. So we should rise up against any soldier who thinks he is a Messiah. He is, in fact, the devil. As Alban says, we can agree to disagree. Out of that disagreement we can formulate a compromise -- and that is precisely what we are all doing by insulting ourselves and engaging in these conversations. God Bless Ghana.

General George Patton of the US said, quote " If we all think alike then someone isn't thinking". Unquote. Some Ghanaians have the mentality that we should all think, act etc alike and that is not going to be possible. Even twins who are difficult to differentiate, do not think alike.
We, as people should understand that no leader in Ghana either past or present will fully have one hundred percent support from Ghanaians. That is the problem with some of us concerning Nkrumah. Yes, there are those who see him as "God" while some of us see him as the initiator of our current woes. There is no reason to arrest someone and put him in prison without trial as he did to JB which led to his untimely death. Differences of opinion is all over the world including heaven where Satan opposes anything the Creator does and should that be a prerequisite for total annihilation? No. As Bagbin said, we should agree to disagree as long as we are practicing multiparty democracy.

Ghana is so blessed with resources more than a lot other countries in the world yet Ghana continues struggle to develop . Political party affiliation seems to be more important than the country . The country does not belong to any political party. Until citizens understand that working together regardless of your party affiliation is the best recipe for success. The 4 year term is also too short for any political party to make a big difference. The winner takes it all attitude is not helpful either. Ghana needs to get beyond party affiliation and tribalism, harness brain regardless of tribe, religious and sexual orientation for a common goal.

Even if Danqua said this, tell me; was he right or wrong? Is Ghana really independent nearly 60 years or is signing a piece that says you are independent makes you independent.
If your son tells you to the face that he wants his freedom at 18 years and he keeps coming back to you for school fees, would you consider him truly independent? Our slave masters laugh, any time we go to them begging. Independence my foot!
