Especially as both NPP and NDC officials are both bedfellows in the most despicable corruption scandal the country has ever witnessed. 2.5% of the concession in the West Cape Three Points oil concession to the EO group, then a registered company in Ghana. After much huffing and puffing from the NDC and the general outrage from the public, both the NPP and NDC played a cunning conjuring trick on the unsuspecting public.
The Mills administration and GNPC both consented to a Deed of Assignment for EO Group to assign its interest to the KG Group, a Cayman Islands exempted company. Incidentally the same George Owusu is the signatory for EO Group and KG Group. The end result is whereas we would have been able to track any funds going into a company registered in Ghana, no one will ever know what funds flow into the Cayman Island account. This is the loot bag that those NPP , NDC and GNPC officials stand to siphon off revenue from the nation's oil. And our so called Dr. Osei Akoto having shepherded the dodgy Petroleum Agreement through Parliament thinks the matter will never be resurrected. The day of reckoning is approaching. We have important matters to address indeed.

Yes there are other equally serious issues that need attention in this country and I think that the national coat of arms is certainly one of them.
The national coat of arms depicts the spirit, the substance and the history that eventually evolved and shaped our national identity. It is not a trivial matter and even though I am not surprised, I am shocked that even an MP in the Parliament of Ghana thinks that a debate on the national coat of arms should be abandoned to the futile domains of academia.
To think that a whole director of the School of Marketing in Legon, the so-called premiere university of Ghana, cannot understand the intellectual and historical import of the icons in the national coat of arms and further proceeds to make silly, childish and daft propositions for alteration of this vital national emblem, only goes to prove how low we have sadly sunk as a country.

Much as it is doubtless that the national coat of arms should remain as it is, Osei Akoto's suggestion that the debate should be left to academics is a most preposterous and dangerous suggestion.
When and where has academia in Ghana produced anything useful or sensible in this country? They cannot even produce useful, productive and employable graduates. It is not surprising that this debate, as senseless and as illiterate as it sounds and appears, came from those we erroneously refer to as academics.
The national coat of arms which, not surprisingly, was designed by a non-academic, gave us our national identity and we thank Amon Kotei for this wonderful, gift of life.
As intelligent as both Amon Kotei and Kwame Nkrumah, the then Prime Minister and a leading Pan Africanist, who approved and accepted the national coat of arms were, they obviously considered the insertion of an icon depicting a castle - note that I did not say 'THE' castle, as a reference to the painful reminder of long periods of our history of slavery and tyrannical colonial domination. And if Ghanaians were to take due note of this fact, we would not be in the mess that we find ourselves today.
The day when academics in Ghana will begin to make sensible interventions in the public domain, we will begin to respect and ask for their advice. Until then, they should just shut up and continue to day-dream in their ivory-tower.

I whole-heartedly agree with Dr. Anthony OseI Akoto that changing the Castle in the Coat of Arms of Ghana is needless. It is extremely needless. The suggestion for the change apparently came from scholars who know very little about our unique "collective historical monument". I challenge Drs. Bossman Asare
Margaret Amoakohene , and Dominic Fobih to read Albert van Danzig's Fort and Castles of Ghana. In the introduction, Prof. van Danzig writes "....a collective historical monument unique in the world: the ancient shopping street of West Africa". Stretched for about 300 miles along the coast were these these structures -historical monuments showing what the Europeans did to us. When are we going to teach our young ones about our holocaust?
Shame on Asare, Amoakohene and Fobih.
