YOUR CONTINUOUS STAY IN OFFICE DEPENDS ON STREET-NAMING EXERCISE – MAHAMA TELLS MMDCEs
President John Dramani Mahama has charged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to take seriously the street-naming exercise he directed to be carried in all districts across the country, stressing it is the performance in execution of the project that will form the basis of evaluation of MMDCEs. “I gave a deadline for all MMDCEs to name their streets and number their houses. I take this deadline very seriously and your continuous stay in office will depend on how diligently you apply yourself to the street-naming and house-numbering exercise.”
President Mahama stated on Tuesday, November 05, 2013 while addressing MMDCEs attending an orientation programme in Accra. “You are the drivers of development and change in your districts and that is why I cannot understand why our streets are not still named and our houses are not still numbered,” President Mahama vented. In March this year, President Mahama in launching the National Urban Policy Framework and Action Plan gave the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development 18 months to ensure that not only are all streets in the country named but also all houses numbered. “I send you to your posts with my full backing to do everything you can to stump out corruption,” President Mahama assured the MMDCEs.

This is a fruitless and useless exercise because all government vehicles already have special number plates. The plates bore the GV which no private vehicle is permitted to register. So the issue to me is not a special number plate that could be used to check misuse of such vehicles. Rather as we are all aware, we lack an effective monitoring system and we live in a country where everything goes unchecked. So many actions have to be taken to curtail the use of official vehicles privately. But unfortunately we as Ghanaians lack the moral to check the rot in the system as all are involved. As such a new exercise which is considered better ends up in the same way as the previous one. How many times haven't names of organizations changed for the same old shit to exist? We should rather hold the bull by the horn in order to make existing laws and regulations work. This is another means of enriching the officials involved. So by what means is this new or special number plates going to be used to check the misuse of the vehicles for which the old GV could not effectively do as such?

If you really want to know how many car a dept has you have to go there and see the past records of all cars. The govt is relying on the departments to register the cars, why cant the govt just ask the depts how many cars they have. Not all govt cars are no they road because of small faults they dont have spare parts for, will the broken cars have new number plates? What happen to those cars with no registion?
Time for stealing call auction to themselfs. No govt workers should be allowed to bit for these cars because instead of fixing the cars they wait and put the broke part in within an hour after they buy it. Why cant the govt fix the cars or take them to crap metal dealers.

Guys and Girls, we have formed a new advocacy group called the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM). It is a non partisan, non affiliated, non profit and non governmental organisation, formed by the people and for the people in response to the growing concerns of the steady devaluation of the quality of life in Ghana and to call for accountability and implementation of effective standards which will impact the lives of the Ghanaian people.
We aim to serve our communities through education, empowerment and outreach projects.
Please "Like" us on CCM Ghana on Facebook, follow us on twitter or check our website which is still under construction. Also, we hold meetings via skype and will be inaugurating on the 6th March, 2014.
If you share the same dream of action and not just talking, then please join us on Skype on ccmghana or email us at secretary@ccmghana.org.
We will be looking forward to your contributions to this selfless cause.
Many thanks.
