"Just put yourself in my care for two years," said the doctor. "Come to me three times a week, and I'll cure your fears."
"How much do you charge?"
"A hundred dollars per visit."
"I'll sleep on it," said Mr.S.
Six months later the doctor met Mr.S. on the street. "Why didn't you ever come to see me again?" asked the psychiatrist.
"At a hundred buck's a visit? A bartender cured me for only ten dollars."
"Really, How?"
"He told me to cut the legs off the bed!"

The average Ghanaian has a very short memory; too short to remember to reward righteous politicians or punish unrighteous politicians. Blame him/her not.
It’s neither her duty nor her fault that she can’t remember politicians’ political records. For peace sake, she has job responsibilities, family obligations, and personal life to take care of.

Why Prison hospital? We should rather build on the existing structures and or add new health facilities to the benefit of all. I agree that in order to reduce recidivism, we need to seriously engage professionals into our penal system to help in the reformation process otherwise we are only churning out hard core criminals to the detriment of the larger society. So Prison hospitals? I don't think so!!!

This is where corruption starts, new prison hospital, nurses, doctors, counsellors, clinical, indeed they need the "PROFESSIONALS"to ensure their fat income,re-offending means there is no proper rehabilitation process in place. Prison system creates job for the "elites" in the western world, they are not interested in your wellbeing as an inmate, your misery ensures their paycheck. liars instead of lawyers

Prisons Hospitals in every region? Wow! This is a complete OVER-KILL.
Those needing psychiatric services could be referred to the existing psychiatric hospitals. Alternatively, some psychiatrists could be assigned to the jails for the inmates to be provided services a few times weekly. As for the idea about whole prisons Hospitals... it will not happen; Not even in richer advanced countries.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Prisons Service has shot wide over the mark by suggesting that the Prisons service needs a Prisons hospital in each Region. Even the Military and the Police with presumable national staff strengths over 20,000, do not have hospitals in each Region.
If he is comparing the Prisons Service to the Military and Police establishments, who have hospital complexes such as the Military and Police hospitals, he has got it all wrong. The internal utility requirements as well as Staff strength of the Prisons Service do not require nor warrant such a logistical appendage. Why, in any case, can we not have a Police & Prisons Hospital so that budgetary allocations for the existing Police Hospital can be significantly increased to accommodate such an exigency?
I however I do think that as a matter of urgency, each Prison facility with over 200 to 300 in-mates should have a small in-built clinic with a locum medical doctor, a psychiatrist and two nurses in permanent attendance, running on a 24/7 cycle.
Such a medical facility should be available to both supervisory staff and in-mates and should ultimately aim at the provision of professional or specialization needs of a Prisons institution. Serious cases requiring more advanced medical facilities and professional expertise can be referred to either the Police hospital or the Military hospital.

Ideally, your idea sounds great. I am for a tiny medical service(Clinic) with one or two nurses per shift to attend to minor emergencies. However, if the Prisons Services have medically trained staff for such emergencies this could suffice.
A resident medical doctor and a psychiatrist will be a waste of resources, as our 3 main psychiatric hospitals in the country are crying for staff psychiatrists to treat our numerous patients. Know also that Ghana still needs psychiatrists to treat the 90% of our politicians who currently refuse to admit that they are mentally ill.
