Thomas John Watson, Sr. (February 17, 1874 – June 19, 1956) was the chairman and CEO ofInternational Business Machines (IBM),[2] who oversaw that company's growth into an international force from 1914 to 1956. Watson developed IBM's distinctive management style and corporate culture, and turned the company into a highly-effective selling organization, based largely around punched card tabulating machines. A leading self-made industrialist,[3] he was one of the richest men of his time and was called the world's greatest salesman when he died in 1956.[

Kwame you need to read wider to know IBM did not come out of the blue. I'm not downing Watson coz he was a central player in establishing what we now know as the IBM organization and culture. Remember it was Herman Hollenrith who founded TBC in 1884 when Watson was only 10yrs. old. It was Herman who invited Watson a # 2 executive with then NCR Corporation on board in 1914 to help steer and grow what has become now IBM. Does this make Watson the founder of IBM?

No one is interested in the history of American entrepreneurial giants. We could google up and read about the men who made America in the late 18th century and early 19th. The point here is, wishing Ghanaians a happy new year has no correlation with the ex IBM chief! We are so into quoting foreigners at the very least opportunity. These were just hard working men who made their country great. When will we start quoting Ghanaians??

We are awaiting the day when Ghanaians will quote successful Ghanaians instead of always quoting IBM founder, Ellison, Carnegie, JP Morgan etc. As the MD of Lakeside i hope the new year will motivate you to contract some of your jobs to Ghanaian entrepreneurs. This way we will see how far you will take your company to, help boost Ghanaian businesses and probably be blessed with a better new year's message at the end of 2014. Happy new year though.
