We cannot be complaining about successive wage bills but afraid to do nothing about it. Unemployment and retrenchment is part of life. If we are afraid to be unemployed we would never progress. Unless a tree falls and dies its seeds would not germinate new life. If people have to be retrenched because their skills are not needed so be it. Govt cannot continue to be a Social Welfare Dept for the unemployed.

We cannot continue to be crying over huge wage Bills but scared to address the problems of deadwood workers.

The WOE of Ghana's trouble have the presence of this STEALER PV Obeng ; this man has being the cause of all the troubles since Rawlings time ; PV OBeng should just devoid himself of government affairs and leave the management of the economy to the Finance Minister ; if PV Obeng was any good ; Ghana would not be in the bad state it is today ; the man is GREEDY a THIEF and thinks like Ghana's 'Whiteman' Rawlings ;both think they are can carry all their properties into their graves oneday !!!!!!!!; both should think CAREFULLY because nobody can buy TIME.

Always in Government and paid by the tax payer. There are so many of the PV Obengs in Ghana. No value add to the country just draining its resources.

I think Ghana should privatize entities such as the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), as well as ensuring financial self sustainability in the higher educational institions.

The consistent cashflow activities (e.g.vehicle registrations)indulged in by the DVLA should be adequate to ensure financial self adequacy. Moreover, students in tertiary institutions are paying large amounts of school fees and one wonders why those monies are not enough to take care of those schools and their lecturers.

If the government of Ghana extricates itself from administering the aforementioned institutions, it will not only save itself from some financial burden, it will also force those institutions to liquidate the entrenched corruption burdening them.

In our quest to make our tertiary institutions less reliant on government, vigorous attempts should be made to reach their alumni both far and near to contribute towards an endowment, or a trust fund. Flushed with the payment of school fees, and the availability of endowment funds, educational institutions would be able to fund their own activities.

Taking the above mentioned steps will help the government of Ghana take some financial burden off its weary shoulders and thus concentrates on other critical sectors of the economy.
