For a fact, someone in the party's security detail must have pocketed cash to introduce him. But the guy himself is so stupid to think he would get away with lies in a situation where the whole world is present. What was he thinking?
Finally this has not been the first time as there were complaints when he surfaced for the first time some time ago.

Because there is no way of proving he is telling the truth or lieing unless you successfully use a lie detector or interrogate him under hypnosis!!!But as you said it is insulting!!He could have been relieved!

Could it be that this" interpreter" was actual a high security guy placed at the front to protect the dignitaries but he was using sign interpretation as a cover.
