Mr Paul Victor Obeng, has made a strong case for the need to ensure that increasing access to the Internet does not lead to the importation of alien cultures.
“While increasing access to the Internet would improve the socio-economic circumstances, its negative influences call for a concerted effort to counter the bad influence.
Increasing access should not lead us to the importation of attitudes that are incompatible with our social norms,” he said.

This sale was too ambiguous with the blessing of Mahama. Everything smell "fish" in the sense that all those in this transactions are top men and women in the ruling party. Ghana is indeed a failed nation because corruption has the blessing of the Chief Executive officer of the nation. It is on record that The Ahwois are in the shadows of this deal. This sale is a 'theft in broad daylight' saga forced upon the poor Ghanaian. Our leaders ought to be ashamed of what has happened. Pray that Mr Awuni's court challenge meets success, else the repercussions here will make the numerous judgement debts appear miniscule. Why are Ghanaians remaining silent over such blatant ransacking of national resources ??? We must all be complicit in this fraud, or simply cowardly fools. GOD SAVE GHANA.

How can "paying" 90million cedis for a 90% stake in an entity be better than "paying" 199 for a 75% stake in the same entity? How were the assets of the Bank valued? What was (is) the fair value and how was it determined? How many (outstanding shares) does the bank have and what went into its pricing?
The sale of this bank has been very controversial. Therefore, let SSNIT and Fortiz make everything about the deal public. In fact, unless there is a mistake or an error in this news item, this story doesn't make any sense. Fortiz, Bank of Ghana and SSNIT owe Ghanaians and SSNIT contributors an explanation.

If the South Africans had bought it, they will lay-off and pay the workers paltry severance; import staff from South Africa and give juicy perks whilst lording over the few Ghanaians they will engage in menial jobs, as well as repatriate all profits to South Africa. This will in effect will worsen the unemployment issue in the country.
The Ghanaian firm on the other hand will maintain the staff and float shares of the bank on the Ghana Stock Exchange for Ghanaians to buy. This will enable them own a piece of the bank per share bought.

Ah Maame Koniaba, you've posted very insightful comments...looks like you have more information (and knowledge about acquisitions). The "South African Offer" was (is) confusing-taking over Assets and Equity but not the Liability-defies the basic (primary school) Accounting Equation. (Asset= Equity + Liability. So once the Assets are acquired,it automatically follows that Liabilities and Equity are also acquired (ie the Accounting Equation can also be interpreted as: Liabilities and Equity combine to make up Assets). So how could the South African Company says it wants to take over only the Assets and Equity? I just don't understand this kind of "deal". Or could part of the 199million be used to pay off the Liabilities, leaving something to pay 75% percent of the outstanding shares (Equity) and (thus) the Assets? Could you please tell me? (I wish there was a way I could get in touch)
