It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution...

I agree that paying realistic price for energy must ideally be the way for reliable supply. But rather paradoxically, the high or the realistic energy prices Ghanaians pay, the more the situations worsen. Thus, can the situation get better if the energy companies charge higher prices remains a nightmare. The issue is not solely to blame on price. Efficient management from policy to production, distribution, right down to the final consumer is unfortunately questionable. How would this energy expert explain that the higher prices can ensure reliable supply whiles anomalies in the energy sector which do not necessarily need money to fix but rather thinking and responsibility are lingering around. For instance, if the electricity company's management imports equipment which they know to be incompatible to our energy system or obsolete but for the sake of greedy deals and self-interests still buy those equipment, why wouldn't price increases at the same time supply decreases because of the useless equipment? What effective strategy has been put in place to get rid of people stealing energy in connivance with the same electricity company workers? This is what the energy experts should know, that higher energy prices do to necessarily translate into reliable supply if current policy, management strategy, workers and consumer behaviours, etc resulting in wastes and losses are not dealt effectively with. The higher prices will only pay for the cost of management ludicrous inefficiencies and not for reliable supply. Period!

The only way to increase power supply in Ghana is to invest heavily in the industry through the modernization of the sector. The necessary funds for the modernization can be realized only when Ghanaians are prepared to pay the right tariffs for energy use.Consumers can help solve the power deficit problem in the country by paying the right tariffs or the 'dumsor, dumsor' problem will worsen to the detriment of the development of the economy. It is high time Ghanaians realized that it is only through responsible citizenship that the nation can move forward.

Some people think that development comes easy. Tarzan is one of the most sensible people in this country. At least he has been consistent in supporting the increase in tarrifs, condemning govt for yielding to the pressure and lamented on the effect of that on the economy in future.
Constant and stable power supply has the potential to catapult this country to heights that the ordinary person cannot fathom. Energy is the pivot of development in every country. Its effect on economies is phenomenal. In Ghana, we have a penchant for free things but that is not what development is about. We have to sacrifice for our future enjoyment. Just a few months ago we were crying dum sor dum sor, today we have power so we've forgotten that there is the need for us to ensure that we don't return to that situation again. Let's pay and monitor how the money is used - demand accountability.
