Who is an expert in Ghana and if we really have these so-called "experts" what are they recommending and why can't they follow what they recommended to make it work in Ghana? I blame our educated elite for our woes. They are nothing but leeches who are sucking our blood for nothing.

If parliament can declare our health delivery a national security issue, mandate can be giving the Ghana Armed Forces to turn out more ethically sounded medical personnel from specialists to nurses thru a Military Medical College to fill the gap within ten years. These brigades of medical personnel would be just as fine as our military men with the highest standard of dedication, but the pain is they won't do it because there won't be room for stealing.

Formally I was of the view that medical officers were the best from our educational institutions, thus could be able to resolve the problems they confront in the health system. Some time ago I was explaining how health insurance work and a doctor told me that I was talking none-sense.
How come that our so-called best brain work with people for over three years and not even giving them appointment letters and paying them. Most of the drugs that the Ministry of Health import are generic drugs, but doctors in state hospitals will tell you that they are not in NHIS drug list.
We need intellectual who can solve problems that emerge at any point in time.

Otherwise, the capitalist operators in the healthcare are always the profit winners at the cost of the vulnerable low income groups.
The Philipines have now introduced such a national coverage to save lifes.
If we Africans think that the NHIS (or how & WHATEVER they call it in Ghana & elsewhere)is by-force, then we're digging our own graves softly & slowly!!
*****There's no healthcare that gives everlasting life no where to anyone:
*****IF THERE'S A HELL BELOW, WE ALL GONNA GO: 'you only live once'!!!*****
Compulsary & mandatory for everyone of our national healthcare delivery is a must; this is my suggestion!! Take it or leave it?!
I pay a $200,- monthly premium monthly whiles I even don't slick a single painskiller all around the year, but that premium helps save someone's life elsewhere or in my neighbourhood. What about that?
*****Play stingy with your health means play smart with your life; but I'm a proud healthy 60pluser & enjoying life till the last call!!*****

Every healthcare delivery system MUST include public education through the mass media and face-to-face education of the patient by the physician.
The time has come to end the Stone Age practice of keeping things from the patient. Granted, the patient-physician ratio is too large to have a doctor give an entire lecture to a patient, a simple word or two to enlighten the patient about the condition would go a long way.
A patient made aware of (1) the diagnosis, and (2) how to manage and even prevent the problem, might go on to share this newly-found knowledge with an entire household. Furthermore, such a patient would more easily adhere to the physician's recommendations and therapy compliance.
Secondly, there should be REGULAR public health education programs on TV, radio, and other mass media outlets. I'm sure, to some extent, this is already happening, but it needs to be beefed up to a much wider scale: say, Tuesdays for Hypertension, and Strokes; Wednesdays for "Taking Care of Your Heart"; Thursdays for "Cancer Prevention"; Sundays for "Eat Right to Prevent Illness", and so on.
ALL educational institutions, from Kindergarten to Universities, should have a MANDATORY Health Education course, which would include nutrition, sanitation, and how to avoid health problems.
A populace well-informed about health would enable the country to enjoy a well-managed and affordable healthcare delivery system.

Very efficient and effective health insurance/medcaid system and good salaries will help reduce the high motality rate in Ghana. Our hospitals should also be equipped with 21st century medical facilities coupled with very good training and development of our medical practioners.Preventive health care system should also be vigourously embarked on since as the saying goes"PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE".This is true because what we eat, drink and our general way of life will most of the time determines our life expectancy rate. Our roads should be improved and vehicle inspection and driver training and licencing should be given a very close attention in order to reduce road accidents which has claimed many many lifes in Ghana.

In fact, Ghana should have the equivalent of a "Surgeon General": a top-notch physician that aids the Ministry of Health in issuing public directives on health matters. Such an official should be a leading member of the College of Surgeons and Physicians.
For instance, this "Surgeon General" should have the sole authority to tell Ghanaians WHAT TO EAT.
In terms of modern medical facilities, a great deal of emphasis should be placed on DIAGNOSTIC machines, including especially imaging devices. Evidence-based medicine is the current approach. For, it is far better to determine if a blood clot is moving towards the lungs, or the heart is enlarged, or one chamber of the heart is not pumping properly, etc, than to wait for things to happen and then perform million-dollar surgeries.
Also, a good and RELIABLE clinical chemistry laboratory could help prevent disease and eventually save millions of dollars in therapy.
Behind every efficient healthcare delivery system is a set of EFFECTIVE diagnostic tools.

Obviously what such an official would communicate to Ghanaians would not be based on personal opinions but on FACTUAL MEDICAL SCIENCE. That is a no-brainer!
