Where did it mention anything about the mode of transportation? Sad to hear a woman dying after giving birth, but this is common in africa due to poor healthcare and adding to this woman's fate, is her age.

It is not ideal. Children born to older women are at risk of serious childhood diseases including diabetes, congenital diseases, ADD, stunted growth, even heart problems and "unsuoba-type" children. In addition, the child risks not having a mother for long. Live expectancy in Ghana is low. By the time a 43-year old's new baby is 20 years old, the mother is already 63, probably retired, ill or dead. How does a 20-year old student survive without a mom? In many instances, a 43 year old is almost a grandmother. So, it becomes a case of a grandmother having children while her own daughter is also having children. I hate that scene. But, that's me.

Be informed first before making such arguments. Above 35 yrs, the probability of having a child with Down's Syndrome is high and that is what makes it risky, and not because of vaginal delivery. So to say that she should have opted for CS is not here or there.
Also, we don't have the facts about her pre, peri or postnatal counseling. And moreover, there is nothing from the report that shows that she delivered the twins vaginally.
And mind you, it is true that probability of having a down syndrome increases with maternal age, but more than 75% of those with down syndrome happened to women under 35. And recent researches are showing that aged men after 45 also have the chance of having down syndrome babies.
I would rather worry about a pregnant lady with diabetes and probably ask her to opt for CS, instead of vaginal delivery because of having macrosomia (big baby).
Do a little bit of research from your new place of abode, women are now giving birth safely in their 40s. Yes, it is still risky but that should not result maternal deaths as it is happening in our world. If you are still in Canada, go to sickkids and ask about it, any perinatal death to both the mother and/or baby would be investigated because they "believe," a mother and child should not die at the time of delivery.
We need to take maternal death seriously in our country. While 50 million is giving to Woyome, nothing is giving to Korle Bu Maternity ward. Right on the floor (veranda), women are delivering babies and doctors don't even have hand gloves to help.
May she and other women who are dying in droves while giving birth rest in peace.

I have never heard of such incident since I got to America. That's why I grow mad, when people sit down in Ghana comparing America to Ghana. The other time, someone was saying there are no jobs in U.S, whaat. People are called on phones to come and work but they refuse such jobs, simply because they earn money from unemployment benefits. If you come to America with visitors visa, nobody will employ you because you are illegal immigrant. If you are legal alien and you are not well educated in America college or university, don't expect a job that will give you more than 15 dollars per hour. Nobody go to bed with empty stomach. There hostels for the bhomeless. The homeless do not like to stay in such hostels because illegal drugs are not permitted in the premises. No woman dies when giving birth , the worst they will do is surgical operation.

Owen, I do share your sentiments. However we as a people seem to have a problem. May her soul rest in perfect peace, but my worry is, if she had been in government, she would have either been flown from her base in Prestea to Accra, or even gone overseas far ahead of time to deliver her twins.
I have stopped having sympathies for politicians. If it is for them, all avenues must be explored, but when it comes to you and I, that word dare not be applied else someone will be fired. I feel very sad whenever a veteran politician can boast of coming from his village barefoot and still could make it to a school like Achimota, which today no civil servant will dream of such a place for his/her ward.
