What initiative and vibrancy has he brought into the police force? Can Mahama tell Ghanaians whether bribery and corruption rampant in the police force have been eradicated? If anything bribery and corruption have rather increased to an unprecedented levels. These days, off-duty policemen have been mounting illegal road blocks to rob motorists and passengers with impunity. Instead of sacking the IGP, Mahama is singing praises to his fucking ears because of tribalism. The other tribes are watching. Mark my words.

Have people already forgotten that Kufuor's own IGP, Nana Nsiah, when he got to retirement age he extended it for two years? NPP's behaviour will keep them in opposition forever. People are really fed up with such unreasonable heckling.

This is one of the wisest things the President has done ever since he assumed the presidency. Dr. Enning is analyzing the whole issue from the academic point of view but refuses to eface reality vis-a-vis our national psyche. Mr. Mohammed Alhassan has undoubtedly introduced modern concepts of policing and this has attracted the admiration of all well meaning citizens. This feat is very glaring with its manifestation scattered all over the country. It needs to sustained because it has drastically reduced crime and its fear in the country. We are not implying that the hierarchy is incapable of performing better but I believe what prompted the extension of his term was the fear of this noble concept of visibility and other positive initiatives being abandoned by whoever takes over. Mr. Alhassan has a lot more up his sleeves so we must applaud the President for extending his term for two more years and stop thinking of his age.

Feel sad reading some comments about the extension of the post of the IGP, the comments are very tribalistic, what is this all issue about one being from the north and one from Akan,It looks like and it is so that someone thinks it is time for him/her to hold the post and make a name as IGP, hence the agitation to force others out, remember in the days past, it was even believed that some people go to see JUJU men, to either kill or do what is possible to eliminate the boss so they can take their position. The final decision is with the PRESIDENT. The Buck STOPS there!!! That is how Democracy works, YOU voted to GIVE your POWER to Choose and DECIDE to the President,MP etc. It makes no difference who occupies and position as long as He/She has the interest of Ghana, and can do the JOB.

What Mahama has to realise is that all the noise from the majory tribe is because they have lost their dominant role in the intellectual, political and social power-play in Ghana. This is because the minority tribes, Fantes, Northerners and Ewes have began to punch above their weight in national affairs for the simple reason that the majority tribe cannot be trusted to control the affairs of the country. To all intents and purposes, they will sell the country down the drain. The minorities together wield more power than the majority and this is currently being played-out on the political landscape. Their reply is to pour out vernom and destructive machinations and play politics by the dirty. Whether this is the best strategy to turn their fortunes round we are yet to see. To extend the tenure of the IGP is too controversial and unnecessary, since it will only contribute more to the unsavoury political atmosphere in the country. Mahama should get on with his work without fear or favour, but there is absolutely no need for unnecessary controversy.

I met a man at the Regional Police Police Hdqtrs, Sekondi way back in 2008. He had then gotten off his car and walked towards me. He was calm and looking straight. When he got to my side, I tried to greet him but he greeted me first before I could say a word.
A few minutes later, I saw him up the block in a chat with another fellow. I later asked who that person was and was told he was the Regional Commander.
Why was he not in uniform? The answer was that his rank was higher than being at the Regional Command so he wasn't allowed to be in uniform. Why is he then not in Accra? Hmm, I cant tell was the answer I got.
Further information was that he had just returned from UN mission which he capped with being the IGP of Liberia. I was told of other positions he had held in the US and others. Then I was told that he was a potential IGP. Jesu Kristi! IGP? Aye, aye, sorr!
Later I heard that that man has been transferred to Accra, that that man has been appointed 2i/c in the service and then he has been appointed IGP.
