My only problem with the government is why scarce national resources taken from us by increased taxes should be placed at the disposal of private businessmen to promote their private businesses in the form of private tertiary educational institutions and to thereby rake in huge profits when the public tertiary institutions continue to endure the hardships visited on them by poor and insufficient infrastructure. If all the public educational institutions were well catered for by government, I would have no problem if excess resources are given to the private businessman in education to help him promote his business. Why should the suffering masses pay taxes only for the unjust enrichment of those who are already wealthy? Any just policy should rather tax the wealthy for the establishment of public infrastructure which the poor can also use. How many of the suffering poor people can afford to pay the high fees that these rich businessmen charge in their private universities? Shouldn't these businessmen be left alone to develop their school-businesses from the profits generated? Unless the government investment in these private schools would be accepted on condition that the government becomes a part owner with rights to take a share in the profits and also rights to make inputs into the fees charged for the benefit of the public, I would say the government should rethink this policy. Until that is done, I have this hunch that some greedy bastards in government are in league with some greedy businessmen to perpetrate a fraud on the suffering masses of Ghana.

Before the last election, NDC cunningly created additional 45 constituencies without telling where the money will come from to pay those MPs. Yes, we all know that government relies on taxes as a way to push its agenda forward but it should find other avenues as the system is rife with waste and uncontrolled spending.

Please Mahama, do not rest untill this cancer is wrestled to the ground because we can't look on while some individuals continue to make holes at the bottom of this ship and cause serious leaks while others break their backs to keep it afloat. I think the way to do it is to increase the punishment for serious cases, perhaps make it punishable by death as is done in China and secondly pay huge reward to informants.

Assuming he chooses to go to some under-previlage area in Accra to mount a platform to talk about taxation and how it affects their living condition, believe you and me, most will think of him as getting insane. If this given scenerio happens in Accra, what do you think about a village where the dwellers don't even board a car to their market place to buy one or two items? Even the so called learned among us don't think about the taxation impact because they make easy money through all sorts of deals.

Fifi Kwetey is nobody!

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey was born in Hohoe on Friday, June 2, 1967. He was the second born to former Barclays Bank Manager, the late Joseph Darcy Kofi Kwetey of Nogokpo and former Senior Nurse/Midwife, the late Benonia Esi Hlomado Ayivor, who in 1970 established in her beloved town, the first maternity home, known as Beno’s maternity Home. Even though his direct lineage spans across Denu/Nogokpo/Klikor & Anyarko, Fifi Kwetey, has always considered Aflao as his adopted home because it was in Aflao that he was virtually born, bred and grew up. Like many Children who lived in Aflao at the time and most likely today, Fifi walked across the Aflao border to school in Lome and back every day. He attended Christ Roi Primary School in Kodjoviakope and continued to college Protestant, Lome-Tokoin for his BEPC. After obtaining “Brevet” in Lome, Fifi Kwetey who has always been a passionate lover of his homeland Ghana, decided to come back home to continue his education. In September 1984, he enrolled in Bishop Herman College and by June 1987 had obtained the GCE O level. Even at that early stage, the young Fifi had started making headlines nationally and beyond the frontiers of Ghana. He was adjudged by West African Examination Council (WAEC) as the overall best student in the whole Ghana in 1987 and was subsequently flown by WAEC to Nigeria where he was given the top most Award of Excellence as one of the Three Best Students in the whole of West Africa for GCE’ O level in 1987. In September 1987, Fifi Kwetey proceeded to Achimota where he sat for another academic record, taking just a single year to obtain straight As in all his A level Subjects. He did his national service in his beautiful town, teaching English at EP Tokor JSS in September 1989 to August 1990. Fifi then entered the University of Ghana, Legon where he graduated as a student of Economics and Psychology. After the university, he also obtained the Higher Diploma in Business Studies – a fully fledged French Business program offered y the Paris Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Fifi Kwetey after that worked for a number of years in the investment banking industry as a Financial Analyst, a Funds Manager and a Stockbroker. He also lectured capital market courses on the Ghana Stock Exchange for a number of years. In the year 2002, Fifi Kwetey resigned his job in the Financial Sector and decided to fully dedicate his energies to helping defend the legacy of his political hero, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and the achievements chalked by his NDC that at the time was going through a torrid time due to NPP’s avowed aim of destroying NDC at all cost. That begun the journey which saw Fifi Kwetey later becoming a close Aide of Ex-President Rawlings and subsequently the Chief Spokesperson of the National Democratic Congress. The rest of his political contributions culminating in the victory of the NDC in 2008 are very well known to us. This proud son of Ketu South is today the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning. As part of his responsibilities, Hon. Kwetey has a direct supervisory role responsibility over the following; Economic planning, Financial Service sector, Oil and Gas Sector, Ghana Customs and Cocobod. He is also in Charge of Public Procurement Authority, Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) , Ghana Stock Exchange, Ghana Statistical Service and the Department of National Lotteries. Fifi is married to Naomi Kwetey and is a father of four lovely daughters. POLITICAL WORK He was the Features Editor, Ghana Palaver between 2002 and 2004, Aide to ex-President Rawlings from 2003, Managing Editor, The Crystal Clear Lens 2004 and NDC National Propaganda Secretary. One particular trait that stands him out is his hatred for hypocrisy. He loves to call a spade a spade and all who know him can attest to that fact. Indeed he has no patience with mediocrity and believes anything worth doing is worth doing well. It really falls in place that whatever we do in life is recorded by unseen people around us. His character and unblemished academic excellence have brought him where he is today to the envy of opponents. His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills could not have made a mistake in nominating the. brainy Fifi Fiavi Franklin Kwetey, alias Mr. Records Straight as Deputy Minister of Finance, the heart Ministry of government if he did not have confidence in this young, dynamic thinker and researcher par excellence. When we asked how come he happens to 3 Fs as initials he said they stand for his Family, Friends and Foes respectively. Fifi for family, Franklin for friends and Fiavi (which in Ewe means Prince) for his foes.

Why cast such needless insinuations? If he failed twice in his presidential bid, what crime or shame has it been? Is he not better off than the confused, clueless, corrupt, crazy, so-called president, John Mahama, who has surrounded himself with a whole bunch of idiots, fools, morons, square pegs, money launderers(stealers), creating, looting and sharing? Fiifi Kwetey's remarks were damn foolish, arrogant and insulting, and Nduom sought to put some sense into his bloody fucking head. It's regrettable and sickening how the NDC shows no modicum of respect for anyone in this country. Fiifi Kwetey must be reminded that pride, they say goes before a fall. And you, Mr Writer, next time around, show some decency.
