Good job but I do not see why hese companies should only pay back what they owe. They should be made to pay a hefty 50 percent additional penalty for the conspiracy to defraud the nation. That will be the real deterrent to other companies. Why should this not continue if all your penalty is to pay what you owed in the first place. Humans will take chances not to pay until they are caught. Only an additional penalty will serve a s a deterrant.

In order to calculate the correct amount, the various monies must be converted to todays cedi value. So if 2002 one cedi is worth three cedis today, then any amount owed in 2002 must be multiplied by 3 etc. If this is not done it would be an incentive for importers to circumvent taxes with the view that when caught, they will pay less taxes, besides investing the taxes to make profits.

Expect nothing in terms of any criminal indictment of the criminals at CEPS.
They are mostly Ewes and given that the CID director and the deputy are all Ewes and more likely the central figures within the operational units of the CID and Law enforcement outfits are largely Ewes, nothing will come out of this.
Their kinsmen running the investigation will coach them and disclose every information and move to the criminals.
Cruel and rapacious Ewe nepotism and organized crime against the State will destroy Ghana.
These vermins have their entire economic aspirations for survival dependent on the State sector.
CEPS is their economic fiefdom and they will murder anyone who dares to stand in their way like they do in other public and civil institutions of Ghana

You know how Ghanaian Officials are. They are reporting all agencies and businessed that cleared their goods without showing that they paid taxes.
Another reason might be the Ghanaian agency that contracted to clear their goods for them. It will soon come to light with some of these companies showing up at CID interviews with receipts showing that taxes were paid and bogus receipts were issued to these compamies without the companies knowing that the receipts issued to them were bogus.

Hopefully, there would not be any deliberate design by the USA to sabotage our Economy attached to this involvement of USAID in the malfeasance. We are our worst enemies. The Customs and Excise officers as well as other governmental agencies not excluding the police are sometimes the worst enemies of our beloved country. Allowing goods to infiltrate our markets without paying the needed duties etc. is a crime. Because these monkeys, aforementioned turn around and sell these goods to "we the people" at alarming rates. Yes, many Ghanaians are also involved, but the majority of offenders are Foreigners who assume that any Ghanaian can be bought. That is what is happening. From the customs officials to the police, to the persons issuing licenses to Chinese and Pakistani galamsey operators have all engaged in selling Ghana for 30 pieces of pesewas. This is once again not an NDC fault but a National Crises and fault. All past and present political parties and governments have all betrayed we the people. No one is innocent. What the solution? It may take a while to train our officials to think about the future of our children and nation and to place country first above personal gain. After all the politicians have set a bad example at this. They steal, they plunder and sometimes kill ....our dreams and hopes...for the future. The savior of Ghana is not yet born. There are too many thieves among us posing as politicians and leaders and MP's and ministers, judges... We need GOD's Grace and Mercy to move our nation forward. Why because there is simply too much evil within our leadership (past and present)
Get rid of these foreign companies and let the Ghanaian control HIS Destiny. Until such time We as a nation will be pedaling backwards forever. Until the Chinese and Pakistani and Indian stop polluting our streams and rivers through Galamsey, we will for ever be going backwards towards a total neo colonized state. Controlled by foreigners. Why because all of our leaders and leadership (past and present) are and have been in the "pockets" of these uncircumcised Indians, Pakistanis and Chinese, Lebanese and other foreign nationals.
Wake up Ghana..
