According to Dr. Adjei, considering the fact that the about 600,000 public service workers who constitute only about 2 percent of the country’s 25 million population but take home about 70 percent of the nation’s annual budget under the Single Spine Salary Structure, and still complain of their salaries

The government is bloated with too many deadwoods. On my recent visit to some government offices I found a lot of incompetence and many people doing very little or nothing. I am pretty sure the government can let go about a third or at least a fourth or its workforce. The universities must be revamped and the numerous unnecessary programs or course eliminated. The percentage amount fund being spent on salaries is too high. Pay increases without corresponding productivity increases spell doom for any organization (including the government). Bottom lines is find ways and means of increasing productivity and also weed out incompetent employees with negative attitude or lacking motivation.

I reserve the right as a citizen of Ghana to protect and defend my honour and integrity should this civilized challenge for the truth be ignored.

This is not the price I should be made to pay by the Government of Ghana for defending the Constitution of Ghana in the Waterville and Isofoton unconstitutional payments declared by the Supreme Court.

If we take everything from this country in the name of salaries yet we are not satisfied, and we are demanding more, what are we leaving behind for the future generation?”

I hope Mr. Kwabena Adjei would say this to the executive and the legislative branches of the government. Their salaries and other fringe benefits take almost 50% of that 70% that the public workers take from the national budget. These top officials in the country kill and maim others to get where they are today. When they get there the first thing they ask for is bout salary increments, and the next is to exploit loop holes so as to amass illegal wealth.

We have many MPs we don't need, and we have unnecessary ministerial appointments just to give jobs to the boys. 28 qualified, serious ministers are all that Ghana needs, and it does not need more than 150 MPs in its parliament. When we set good examples, we can preach to others and they will listen. But the era of shouting on citizens to keep quite or leave the country is over. We are surely in a police state or about to have one.

$$SOLUTION, Negro: Government shouldn't promise the workers that it would NEGOTIATE with them if, infact, the government doesn't want to negotiate, but rather asking them to LEACE the country if they don't like what they're getting at home. Everywhere in the World, workers—through their unions— DEMAND better conditions of service, regardless of their ongoing salaries and benefits.

Mr. Mahmoud is dead right in his posting: That it is the "EXTRA LARGE government size" that's sapping up about 50% of the 70% that Ghana spends its GDP on SALARIES & BENEFITS. Unbelievable!!!

WHY employ 275 MPs and 15 Supreme Court Justices for a tiny Banana Republic of only 25 million Negroes? WHY 90 Ministers and staff for the same damn tiny country—ALL DOING WHAT, FOOL??? Therefore, general Nunoo, Kwabena Agyei, diplomat K.B. Asante and the rest are the ones to LEAVE Ghana for somewhere else—like some of us have done. Don't blame poor teachers and nurses for their abysmal working conditions.

It's only the MPs, Ministers, State Boards and other USELESS government institutions that are "sucking up the monetary blood of Ghana” and not the ordinary poor public or civil service worker.

I had a pow wow with a community health officer trainee yesterday and believe you me what I heard the guy say left me wondering whether this nation of ours has any future in the next fifteen years. What? Now from what this guy said and the reason for which people should go to strike really got me spinning anti-clockwise and I said to myself the best I can do for my self as a Ghanaian would be to make sure that I find alternative and cost effective means of everything the government provides for myself and on my own if I am to live in this country. Now what do we call internship? Per my simple understanding of internship and from what i have come to learn based on tertiary education and what internship does for you as a student this community health trainee officer would one day just stand there and watch Ghanaians die off all in the name of money. Per what I know you got yourself a letter from your institution of education and took it to any office to work as an apprentice basically for want of a better word and paid your own expenses whilst at it. If the organisation wishes to be charitable, you would be given some stipends to augment your finances thereby acquiring practical knowledge. Now this young chap was telling me that since they have to go and do this kind of internships at the hospitals then they have every right to be given an allowance for what they are doing. What? how about the university student studying business administration and has also carry around his letter from his school to and fro before being picked to do an internship by extension he as well deserves such an allowance. Upon all this this young men and women in brown and green would finish and get ready job with good salaries, how about the university graduate who afterwards would have to carry arround his certificate and application letter before being taken for work what is the governments responsibility towards him because at the end of the day he would also be paying taxes on the little he would earn. Now I have witnessed some thing and am saying this the old men we have are worst curse that Ghana ever had, they are a tragedy for this nation and the more you listen to them talk the more you feel the sense of hopelessness that this nation is being dragged into by this old men. Listen to Nunoo Mensah talk, Mr. Mensah what sacrifice have you made for Ghana? to day am asking answer me. What is this everybody is looking at money in everything they do even to an extent were these youg health officers are also embarking on strikes. But I always say this I thank God that am not broken in strength like most of them are and still not being sensible but I say this The same tiger cubs you disgraceful lots are raising would be the same people who would sink their claws and teeth into.

It is in this statement that I have my problem.

Which countries should Ghanian workers relocate to? Who is acquiring their passports and visas for them, and what arrangements are in place for their resettlement in their new countries? Note that not many Ghanian workers have even dreamt of acquiring passports, let alone have one.

In any case, my view of the General's statement is that he could have put it better by asking those workers who are asking for more pay to resign from work. Moving out of the country is not for anybody to even advise and should be left to the individual(s).

Furthermore my considered opinion is that, where a parent cannot meet demands at home, the parents in gentle, subtle ways cools down pressures by assuring and re-assuring members of efforts being made to satisfy the needs in good time. You threaten your children and create a much bigger problem.

In this wise I doff my hats off for the President and his vice for their assurances that all is not lost, but much is being done to alleviate the hardship Ghanians are going through.

They should go to schools and areas where they need services from the public sector. Even hospitals and you will see the rot and the bribery and the laziness of the workers. Nobody can compare to how lazy our public sector workers are (my own opinion). And oh, oh, oh, our lectures and professors and doctors!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaba; what do we do in the universities and polytechnics? Total nonfa, nonsyla. Just few of them really make people learn. All they do is to make you chew pass and forget. They should go on strike because government is refusing to use the good research and suggested ways they bring out in helping Ghana develop and stop the bribes and "fa wo to be gye A+" that some of them do.

Introductory Chemistry was taught at Cape Coast University for many years by professor Frank Karikari. One year, two guys took the class and did pretty well on all the quizzes and mid-terms--so much so that going into the final, they each had a solid A. These two friends were so confident going into the final that the weekend before finals week, despite the Chemistry final being on Monday, they decided to go to the University Of Developmental Studies to party with some friends.

They did this and had a great time. However, with their hangovers and tiredness, they over slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Cape Coast University until early Monday morning. Rather than taking the final then, they found professor Karikari after the final and explained to him how they missed the final. They told him they went up to the University of Developmental Studies for the weekend and had planned to come back in time to study, but they had a flat tire on the way back and didn't have a spare. They couldn't fix it for a long time and were late getting back to campus.

Karikari thought this over and agreed that they could take the final the following day. The two guys, elated and relieved, studied that night and went in the next day at the time that Karikari had told them. He placed them in separate rooms and handed each of them a test booklet. He told them to begin.

They looked at the first problem which was something simple about morality and solutions; it was worth 5 points. "Cool," they thought, "this is going to be an easy final". They then turned the page. They were unprepared, however, for what they saw on it. The question contained only two words: (95 points) Which tire?

What the Government is failing to do is undertaking proper analysis of what is happening at the labor front. It has to get to the bottom of the root cause of these inceasant labor agitation .
The million cedis question is, who will go on strike if all is well. And the amount they earn at the end of the month is able to sustain them and their families till the next payday .
Yes, the 2% maybe earning 70% of our annual budget but has the government taken into consideration the 92% that depends on the 2% for the country's economy to tic?
It is for this very reasons that I consider Bri. Munoo-Mensah's statement as unfortunate. Leaders are there to find solution to problems pertaining in their country but not to arrogantly tell the citizens who find the kitchen too hot to pick their passport and go abroad. Where does Nunoo Mensah want us to go?

Well, with my humble observations - I will go for the latter.

However, we also have to be ever mindful of external forces orchestrating these demonstrations to stay our development as a nation. History in itself, is the best teacher.

It appears to me that the only language the government of ndc and its numerous spokespersons understands and uses is that of confrontation and buga buga tactics.

The way they talk to voters and the rest of the population gives you the impression and perception that they are not interested in conflict resolution as a government, or they do not know how. If the latter is the case then they should do the right things by consulting specialists in the art of effective communication and resolution.

They have appointed appointed people in government who have no experience of working at a high level of management with proven skills of delivering effective results so they are left in a quandry of ineffectiveness in the area of communication.

You can get people to agree with you to your way of resolving a crisis if you talk to them like human beings and not as someone who knows all the answers and expect everyone to do as you say, even though what you say comes as rubbish to them.

Simply put, the NDC is not a concilliatory party or government; It is a confrontational party and government and the earlier they get some advice the better otherwise we will have a TUNISIA on our hands soon if they continue in this path.

THAT THE ESSENCE AND "SINE QUA NON" OF POLITICS ITSELF IS "TO PROMOTE THE QUALITY GOOD OF THE PEOPLE" AND THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA UNDER THE ABLE LEADERSHIP OF H.E.PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA IS NO EXCEPTION TO THIS NOBLE OBJECTIVES.
THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS COMMITTED TO THE BETTER GHANA AGENDA AND ALSO COMMITTED TO IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF SERVICE FOR ALL WORKERS BUT IT ALL NEED TIME AND WE SHOULD ALSO UNDERSTAND THE FACT THAT SUCH QUALITY SERVICE DELIVERY TAKES TIME AND THAT "TIME IS A FACTOR" THEREFORE DEDICATED AND OUR DEAR GENUINE TEACHERS AND WORKERS WOULD ALLOW GOVERNMENT REASONABLE TIME AND THROUGH DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TOGETHER THE ECONOMY WOULD IMPROVE AND THEREBY ITS REPLICA EFFECT WOULD BE POSITIVELY FELT BY ALL AND SUNDRY.

They criticised anything Dr Kwame Nkrumah did, including our Independence, Akosombo Dam, Tema Harbour, Tema Motorway, GIHOC, and Schools. They have been criticising `Dumso-Dumso`, as if they generated more power in JA Kufour's government; crying electoral fraud when there was none and held the country at ransom for 8 good months. Today, their target is to use civil servants strike. Ghana is the only country which spends more than 10% of its GDP on salaries. Ever since the Single Spine salary. If Ghana spends more GHC4.7BN on salaries for only 6 MONTHS on 700,000 workers, how much revenue is generated by these workers? We must not be greedy and selfish. There are millions of school leavers who cannot get job and they are blaming the government. At the ministries, departments and other offices, their output is even below expectation. Yet they strike action is justifiable by the opposition. Yes, Nunoo-Mensah is right, if you can't cope with the situation, 'The door is in front of you'. Government spends millions to train doctors, scientists, teachers, lawyers etc but none of them have produced anything that the country can boast of. They go abroad only to enrich themselves. I believe the government should prepare unemployed graduates if these greedy ones are not content of their pay. I think NPP should stop their hypocrisy and give us a break, because they are not better.

Even worse is that you want your human capital too to follow because they are crying out for a share of the money that you so ridiculously gave out as ex gratia? Blame yourself. You were warned not to allow Mahama to do as he pleases yet you ignored it. Now who can defend an administration who foolishly gave out ex gratia to MP's when they know that they would need money to pay workers at the end of the day? Past MPs thank-you-money and current workers salaries, which should be more important to this administration?
