Child trafficking survivor to be recognized in Sweden

A Local Senya boy, Isaac Kwesi Quaye, 14, a former child slave who was rescued by Challenging Heights in 2011 has been invited by the World’s Children Prize Foundation to be recognized by H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden.

He accompanies James Kofi Annan, president of Challenging Heights, who has been nominated for the 2013 World’s Children Prize.

James Kofi Annan has been nominated for the World Children’s Prize (WCP) for his work in advocating for the rights of children. The World’s Children Prize award ceremony takes place in Sweden on 14th of October.

Challenging Heights is a child Centered Organization that specializes in empowering communities to promote children’s rights to education and freedom from forced labour.

Since 2003, Challenging Heights has rescued, rehabilitated and reintegrated more than 1000 children, who were trafficked to Lake Volta where they were held as fishing slaves. Challenging Heights’ prevention program has reached tens of thousands in communities where children are at-risk of abuse and has empowered them to defend the rights of the child.

The World’s Children’s Prize empowers hundreds of thousands of Ghanaian children, along with 27 million children world–wide, to learn about their rights and advocate for them to be upheld. After learning about the three child heroes, children from across the world participate in democratic elections, which decide which candidate receives the World’s Children’s Prize.

The World’s Children’s Prize, which counts Nelson Mandela and H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden among its patrons, is the world’s largest annual educational program supporting the rights of the child, democracy and global friendship.
