Police may sue TAF for “boring” demo

The Ghana Police Service could sue the Truth and Accountability Forum (TAF) for causing financial loss to the state.

The Director of Operations at the Accra regional Police Command, Chief Supt Sylvester Boyou told XYZ News the group virtually deceived the Police into committing over 250 Officers and several resources to a “boring” and “disappointing” demonstration that saw only 25 marchers.

He said the leaders of TAF gave the Police the impression that about 5,000 demonstrators were to turn up, thus the release of many resources in terms of Officers, vehicles, fuel and horses for the event.

Chief Supt Sylvester Boyou, who fumed at the turn of events, suggested that the Police Service sues TAF for making the State commit a lot of resources to a botched demonstration.

“…It’s a great loss to us and if I had my own way, I will have said the Police administration should start thinking of probably citing them for causing loss to the police administration”, Supt Boyou said.

A seething Chief Supt Boyou said: “…That’s one of the [most] boring demonstrations I’ve ever handled for the last four years”.

According to him, “…when the organisers came to the Office, they said they were going to mobilise as many as 2,000 men onto the streets, so we were preparing to bring men to cover approximately 2,000 men only for me to hear on radio yesterday that they were bringing 5,000 men and it alarmed me further”.

He, therefore, said he was “highly disappointed” because he had to station about 250 Officers at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in anticipation of a mammoth crowd only to be confronted with 25 demonstrators.
