If it had not been the brilliant lawyer John Mensah Sarbah, the people of the Gold Coast could not have owned land in their own country. This is a fact.We are very grateful to Fantes.

I had a phone call from a friend of mine who was at the event.According to her,it was a wonderful event and a tribute was also paid to John Mensah Sarbah by the MC of the occassion.John Mensah Sarbah qualified as lawyer in England in 1887 and was the first African lawyer from Gold Coast. He challenged the British by using their own laws to defeat them over the Land Bill of 1897.This remarkable achievement by Mensah Sarbah prevented the British from owning all the lands in our country,a situation which would have turned Ghana into the Apartheid South Africa style where the natives were denied ownership of land in their own country. Now,can you imagine all Ghanaian Traditonal rulers and their subjects without land? Can you imagine Brongs,Ashantis,Fantes Nzemas Ewes,Gas,Dagombas,Sefwi,Wassa etc without land in their own country? It is only when we reflect on our past that we know the immense contribution of our forefathers. All Ghanaian Traditional rulers aver very grateful to Fantes.

@nana Ama Quayson your writing speaks a lot but you said something of which is not true here look at the date 1897 you mentioned that Mensah Sarbah prevented the british from been taking control of our land and then again you mentioned Ewes the fact is the Ewes are not part of Gold Coast they don't know any history concerning Gold Coast so as an Akan when you are talking about Gold Coast don't mention the Trokosiarian people
