It would have been better that we did not have this oil because the effect of its revenue will never be felt by those living far away from human habitat.

This means nothing to the ordinary Ghanaian struggling to make a living and praying he's not killed or maimed by rampant road accidents or armed robbers.

Ghanaian Government please ensure that the revenue from oil is used for the economic benefit of the whole country - particuarly regions which have been neglected. Let us not go the way of Nigeria where a signficant percentage of oil and subsequent revenue is siphoned out of the system illegally as part of many acts of corruption. We do not want that here. Citizens hold our Government responsible. We will only get the leaders that we deserve if we do and say nothing.

This is welcome news and a step in the right direction.
We must ensure that the oil companies comply with the law fully.
We must use some of the oil revenue to rehabilitate our railways.

It is really not helpful that articles like this get published which undermine confidence in Ghana. While the absence of doing anything real on stopping corruption is negligent, where a company has invested hundreds of millions or billions on the back of an agreement with a government those terms must stand or nobody will invest in Ghana at all and then Ghana will really have a train crash. This is already happening in some sectors such as mining, where there is still clamor for more taxes while Ghana is now one of the highest taxing nations in the world. If a government takes 60% of all income how much of the business does the government effectively own?
