NPP TRANFORMED GHANA TO A MIDDLE INCOME ECONOMY WITH LIMITED RESOURCES BUT GOOD POLICIES. NDC IS WOEFULLY REVERSING THESE NPP ACHIEVEMENTS. GHANA'S CURRENT SITUATION IS VERY DISTURBING. WHEN THE HISTORY IS TOLD, IT WILL BE SAID THAT GHANAIANS WERE OFFERED FREE SECONDARY EDUCATION, IMPROVED UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, SOCIAL HOUSING FOR THE POOR AND AN EGALITARIAN SOCIETY BUT 50% SAID NO THANK YOU. There is no analysis to be made from propagands and blame game. NDC has always got away with accusing NPP for all their woes and incompetence. Evertime this blame game starts, you know the matter becomes a foolish matter never to be resolved.

I really pity the next Govt to take over from these incompetent bunch. They will have a lot of mess on their hands from the word go! So long as people continue to vote along tribal lines and hatred and appointments are also made on who can make the most noise and attack the opposition the most rather than on competence, we will continue to chase our tails and be labeled as a "developing" country never to attain the status "developed".

When it comes to our national debt, it will help if we looked at things straight down from 30,000ft high. Forget about NDC, NPP or CPP economists and politicians: every one of them make noise to gain political dividends...make no mistake about it.

But let's look at things objectively and only then can we start pointing blaming fingers. Our Economists, without exception, fail to use their high education to go behind all the myriad numbers that we keep hearing about so that we could understand how we got ourselves into this mess.

We basically have two deficits:

CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT, which is the difference between what we take in as Revenue less Expenditures per year, which currently stands at around 12% of GDP, and then we have the mother of all deficits:

THE TOTAL NATIONAL DEFICIT, which currently stands at a staggering 52% of GDP. Did I just hear you sigh? Please don't because there is more to this 52% of GDP that our Political Party leaders and their economists keep blaming each other for, may be rightly so because it is your debt, my debt and the debt of our kids ...essentially an accumulation of our continued borrowing, from 6th March 1957 to this day. So don't kid yourself and don't let anybody fool you: every Government we have had from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to President Mahama has a hand in it and that debt will continue to grow for multiple reasons and it is not going to go away anytime soon. With a Total National debt of 52% of GDP, even the proceeds from all our black gold in the ground will make only a dent in paying that much debt off as Dr. Robert Darko Osei said a few days ago. 52% per of GDP is massive and by IMF estimates debt servicing alone will absorb 40% of government revenue. And the sad part of that is...the interest on this debt is compounded and we have to continue paying interest on interest, year after year. We are very lucky that we have had some debt forgiveness along the way. Things could have been a lot worse. So the bottom line is...that national deficit is not going to go away any time soon and it will continue to roll down the hill to generations and generations to deal with. And who said a rolling stone gathers no moss.

There are things we could do to ease the pain a little bit for us and posterity. And that is why President Mahama got an earful in the last two weeks from Ghanaweb readers calling for austerity measures, but whatever you do and in the name of objectivity, don't blame this government alone and don't blame JAK either. Our debt has a long history. Do you remember Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia's "kafoo nso didi" famous one liner that has become so cemented in our vocabulary? We have gone through our post-independence history with this economic philosophy, perhaps because the forces that be have put us in an economic straight jacket. Sadly though, it is the generations down the road who will have to face the real brunt of this debt. We could ease the pain a little bit for them if our politicians could be honest in how they handle our national coffers but that opens another can of worms that needs more discussion.

None of the 36 billion dollars debt since Ndc came to power in 2009 can be blamed on NPP. Not a cent. NDC has seen the damage it is causing to the country and of course they will want to blame others for their glaring failure. 2016 is not far off and I can assure him that NDC will be kicked out for their unprecedented corruption.
