Under other circumstances this woman could have been congratulated. However, judging from the on-going trend where only stupid, moronic and daft African academics are appointed to head international organizations, I cannot congratulate this woman because she, by this appointment, has just been exposed as being another house-nigger sell-out like that other woman (I think Kuenyiahia or something like that is her name) in the shamelessly racist International Criminal Court (for imperialist non-compliant African leaders).

Whoever you think you are, it would amaze you to know that Prof. Anna Lartey has 'Northern blood' in her, and that those behind her and working closely with her are Ghanaians of all backgrounds and tribes. In her team, tribalism is not part of the vocabulary.
Furthermore her closest advisors include 'NORTHERNERS'. You should simply shut your beak rather than expose your ignorance. And while we are on the subject, please always examine the credentials of those you call 'northerner' appointed by the president and compare them with others before your loose pronouncements.
And learn to grow up - we are Ghanaians and that is who we are and should always be!!! If you don't want to be part of that 'tribe' - Ghana, then choose another country.

Prof Anna Lartey's achievements are most remarkable, to be leading the world body of nutritional scientists including all the cutting edge researchers in the world is no mean feat. The first African since its formation in 1949, and only the second woman in its entire history. Most amazing and one to be proud of, and a reminder that the 'can do spirit' is very much alive here in Ghana and Africa. Her cool yet authoritative pose was palpable in Granada, Spain for all to see.
What the report failed to mention is that Prof. Lartey has also been appointed the Director of Nutrition at the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and she will be heading that Division as a Deputy Director-General in Rome. Yet another recognition of the intellect leadership and impact of this diminutive yet remarkable Ghanaian and African woman.
I believe the government and people of Ghana ought to not just celebrate but officially recognise this individual who has done more than most of her colleagues and peers in academia to translate science and research into advocacy and advancement of the cause of maternal and child nutrition for Africa.
I also hope that the government of Ghana would seek her counsel in national matters relating to maternal and child nutrition and programmes to help us meet the millennium development goals (MDGs) particularly 1, 4 and 5 and MDG 8 dealing with international partnerships.
Her achievements are yet another testament of the pride of place and special calling of Ghana and Ghanaians in the world and for Africa. We are truly a blessed nation and it saddens me that some people take that for granted and are more interested in petty and selfish bickering instead of looking at the bigger picture.
Anna, we are proud of you and say, CONGRATULATIONS. We know you will succeed in your roles and can always count on our support.

Yes, the typical sycophantic ovation by a member of the first-generation-educated class of Ghanaians who think that excessive academic qualifications and the subsequent appointment to well-paid jobs based purely on those unnecessary qualifications is the highest achievements that one can aspire to in life in Africa.
For me qualifications dont mean jackshit because these academics - at least in Ghana, have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that their qualifications are only useful for them to get first world pay packets. In short they are simply, stomach academics, just as we have stomach politicians.
In Africa or in Ghana, people make a lot of noise about how society and govt should make it possible for all, no matter how poor, to access education to the highest levels so that they can give back to society. Yet, when these same people manage to acquire the education they seek for, only to enable them extricate themselves from poverty, they then shamelessly turn their backs on the society and people who made it possible for them to be educated.
In spite of the horrendous conditions prevailing in Ghana in the areas of maternal and infant nutrition - not to talk about the free-for-all worsening infernal conditions regarding nutritional standards in the public domain in this country, I had never ever heard of this woman who it is claimed by her fawning cheerleaders such as this Amuna guy that she is a 'guru' in the field of nutrition. She, like most other academics in Ghana is at best a guru for herself in which case, we do not want to be bombarded with any kind of news about her. As they say in local parlance, she should play her front and we too we shall play our front in Ghana where it matters most and not in some far-flung international organization.

Another unfortunate comment. So you have been following very closely on Nutrition issues in Ghana..Have you? Know all about nutrition do you? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but we shouldn't try to pretend we know more than we do about a matter. Just a small piece of advise from someone with unnecessary academic qualification as you describe...do a bit of research on nutrition matters in Ghana and who has done what in Nutrition and I am sure you will get to know this Anna Lartey that you say you have never heard about..Depending on your sources of information to stay current, you may not have come across every notable person in Nutrition in Ghana. just because YOU have not heard of them does not mean they do not exist. You seem to be very angry at people who have somehow managed to get an education...did you miss out on that boat? Sorry about your plight. If struggling through school on parents' others' sacrifices and one's own desire to make something of themselves is a crime, so be it. Why should you then complain if those who are fortunate enough to get the perk of reasonably well-paying job...Why do you get mad at them. If you were are not educated (alluded to by your comments) or do not have a good-paying job, that is certainly NOTHING to be proud of but you show of condescension in your comments is clearly a reflection of your state. unfortunately I have made myself a fool this morning by trying to reason with you. The saying 'never argue with a fool because you might be mistaken for one' is true and I am kicking myself for being so foolish as to waste my time leaving this very long response to your comment which you might not even read..Oh foolish me!!

In Ghana, a doctor was addressing a large audience. "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red Meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. However, there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have eaten, or will eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it? After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old man in the front row raised his hand, and softly said, "wedding cake."
ITS THE PROFESSOR STILL MARRIED AND HER HUSBAND STILL EATING THE WEDDING CAKE.
