I believe Ghanaians need very clear and detailed explanation for the rationale behind these severe and way above-inflation increases in tariffs. The worry is that with these increases comes an increase in consumer prices for goods and services further worsening the plight of the poorest and most vulnerable.

In a country such as Ghana where the main safety net for vulnerable groups lies with their own family or local community, it is unreasonable not to have a mechanism for protecting the poor from inflationary pressures that would automatically result from such decisions.

What is government doing about that? and how can the pain resulting from these hikes be ameliorated among low income households? And how does this impact on our attainment of the goals of the MDGs particularly MDG1, 4 and 5?

Why should Ghanaians sit quietly in the name of the so called peace, for Mahama and his bunch of thiefs destroy the entire nation. After looting the national coffers during the 2012 elections and during Mills funeral, they have turned to unleash this hardship on us. All parties except Ayarecof and the few stomach smaller party leaders have spoken about the way bad economic practices are destroying all gains made as a nation. NPP and PPP keep reminding Ghanaians about the root in the system, but sadly to say, people think they are only doing politics. We continue to receive income from taxes, oil, gold, cocoa, bauxite, diamond, timber, road toll, fines, rates, dividends from companies, loans, grants and other donor funds including the 1 billion Euro bond but up till now Common fund is not paid, GetFund not paid, contractors not paid, book allowances and research grants etc are all outstanding. Teachers allowances including nurses allowances are being withdrawn. Petrol, water, electricity are all increased. The only hope we have as a nation is that, there is no food shortage. The way the economy is being run, should we face food shortage, we are doomed. The question is, why is all the money? Before another government would come, Mahama would have collapsed everything, just as it happened when Prez Kuffuor took over. The question is, are we waiting for Mahama to mess up the life of almost 25 million citizens because he has to be a president?. No, something must happen. Why are Ghanaians looking unconcern for Mahama and his ineffective cohorts destroy the future of thousands of youth in Ghana. Look at the number of JHS graduates who are sitting at home, because of some useless political party's useless promise. Why are Ghanaians behaving as if, we have all sold our conscience. Is it because of peace? Peace my foot. By 150 years from now all the over 7 billion people on earth would be dead. Why is it because of the fear of death, we allow these know nothing and do nothing bunch of jackals take the whole nation to ransom. The youth of Ghana must rise. I side with what Prof Akosa said few days ago, urging the Ghanaian youth to rise and fight for their right, since Ghana belongs to all of us. Something must naturally take place sooner than later. Ghana government, or any government gets their revenue from taxes, investment of revenue, minerals etc. Any government has no business being in business, this is for the private sector. Government cannot now nor ever with be able to run a business as efficient as the private sector. The first step is this never happening again is to privatize all government held business set up utility boards to oversee rates and service, then receive tax revenue. This includes the telephone, internet, water, electric etc. any business that is vital to the infrastructure of Ghana. If you do not know how to do this, while Mahama is in the states tell him to check the procedures.
