Whilst people are leaving Tamale and Northern region in droves for lack of jobs to Kumasi, how can Tamale overtake Kumasi as the second largest city in Ghana? Tamale at present is a big town with huts and mudhouses all over the place.
An International airport at Tamale will be a big flop and waste of our scant economic resources. Where are the estimated 40 to 60 million travellers a year going to come from? The only people who will travel from this airport are the inhabitants of the three Northern regions. How many Northerners travel abroad to warrant an International airport? Stupid boondoogle idea from idiotic government.

See, Kumasi is very congested and that is why many are looking at other areas to build. How long does it take you to travel between Ejisu and Abuakwa or from Tafo to Ampabame? Too Congested. Check Kajetia and you will see what I am talking about. One has to plan very well, always trying in vain to avoid trafic jams.
Do you want everybody moving to Kumasi? Why? It makes sense not to add to the congestion, that is not good ecnomic planning. All Regions must have equal share so no one will have reason to add to the congestions in Accra and Kumasi.
See and understand how the developed countries plan and learn from that.
Many will use that International Airport in Tamale. Why should folks from the North and Brong Ahafo always travel to Accra to catch the plane to go outside Ghana? I tell you that many in Kumasi would rather go to Tamale if there was no International Airport in Kumasi so they can avoid the congestion in Accra.

President John Dramani Mahama has added a whopping GHc15.6 BILLION to Ghana’s total public debt stock since being sworn into office as caretaker and substantive president within the period from July 2012 to August 2013.
This implies that President John Mahama has contracted a total of GHc15.6 BILLION of debt for Ghanaians since becoming the President of Ghana.

Gas pipeline project has almost come to a stand still due to lack of funds.
Accra Kumasi road is getting worse by the day which is impacting koforidua as traffic diverts through that town to avoid the bad accra kumasi road.
Kotokraba market is still a dream after the president cut the sod for work to commence two times.

This is a joke! Do we really need to build new international airports in Kumasi and Tamale? How many Ghanaians can afford air flights? This is another case of misplaced priorities.
Folks, please don't get me wrong, because I think we should have decent airports. However, I strongly believe we should rather invest in faster trains going through all the regional centres. This will reduce accidents, create new jobs, and take away a lot of the load on our poor roads. For example, a cargo bullet train leaving Takoradi or Accra/Tema to our border with Burkina Faso will be able to transport all their imports (we get paid in foreign currency) and allow our roads to have longer lives. Cocoa can be transported faster to the ports. The rich transport owners will be upset, but that cannot be helped because it is good for the nation. We will be able to get rid of those dilapidated articulated trucks. Food can be moved easily from the producing areas to the market faster and will result in affordable food prices.
How? A farmer tries to transport 1000 tubers of yam from Wenchi to Accra. The journey takes about a week because of lack of access to a truck, mechanical hitches and road blocks from our honest police. During this period 200 yams get rotten. His/Her cost is unchanged so the only way out is to jack up the price to make up for the loss.
Jobs: The government/partner will lay new lines, build stations and other facilities that will eventually get the railway lines running. This is what our government should be focusing on. This is the way to go in my view. They should stop these airports to nowhere nonsense.

What we need now in Ghana is quality primary and secondary transport infrastructures. With efficient first class integrated road and rail networks, the economy will improve dramatically, trickling down to our towns and villages as per Kwame's " misplaced priorities article" above. All passengers:traders, students and workers will have the added option of living closer home and commuting easily to work and centres of learning, boosting local economies and reducing the pressures on our cities. New airports at Kumasi and Tamale though good on paper, are not necessarily our immediate priorities. Excellent improvements are required on them though, to enhance the overall transport system in Ghana.
Super duper airports must correlate progressive economy. I am afraid ours is not growing at the moment. Policy formulators must adopt a carefully thought-through step by step strategic pathway for sustainable growth. LINK ALL THE REGIONS INCLUDING EASTERN. LET US PLAN FOR ONE PROGRESSIVE AND DEMOCRATIC GHANA.
GOD BLESS OUR HOMELAND GHANA.

Why do we need the IMF to give us prescriptions? Don't these so-called leaders see the problems afflicting the general populace? By thinking outside the box, I want them to come out with innovative solutions to what is and has been troubling our development. They should take some sensible risks as they devise solutions to issues affecting the country. Reading speeches and pronouncements from our leaders does not make me impressed. It is easy to see through their think and conclude that Ghana is in trouble. I hope they read these comments as you claim!
What are they doing about the perennial unemployment situation in Ghana? What are the plans to create new jobs? Is it planning to just go over what happened to the economy over the last six months and tell the nation that the economy is improving or deteriorating? Why can't we get a long-term development plan that that be reviewed every three years and tweaks made where necessary? Is it leadership to rule by ad hoc committees? Boatieng, you may be part of the government and I believe the proposals put forward by Kwaame is worth considering. Ghana's economy is not only driven by the international meetings held in Accra.

Western Region has been left out again even though we produced most of the natural resources in Ghana. What sense does it make since most of the expatriates travel to takoradi on the oil business boom. Ghana should set their priorities straight. It should rather be Kumasi and Takoradi. What is in Tamale to build an airport there?

Obviously who ever wrote this article has no clue of what he or she was writing. The propsed airport at Tamale is to have 5 runways?
We should ask these cluless people if they know what it means to have an airport with 5 runways. For example, Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Canada is the largest and busiest in Canada. It has two large terminals. In 2012, it handled nearly 35 million passanger 34,912,456 to be precise. There are over 75 airlines operating at Toronto Pearson, connecting the airport to over 155 international destinations worldwide. The only other airport in North America that has this many international connection is JFK in New York. Yet, the Toronto airport has 5 runways.
So in theory, we can look forward to an airport the size of Toronto Airport. Even if we have the money to build such an airport, it will be a waste of money as the facility will be well under utilized.
To make sense of the argument, let's look at the present activities at both Kumasi and Tamale airport. These airports combined don't handle more than one million people a year and our next stop is around 35 million? Eh Africa!!! can we learn to bite what we can chew?
Again, Nkwasea kasa nkoaa....
