IT'S GOOD FOR IT TO REMAIN A CRIME, IN THAT, IF YOU ATTEMPT IT, YOU BETTER COMPLETE IT OR ELSE YOU ARE GOING TO JAIL. WHAT IF YOU ARE ALREADY IN JAIL?

Other topics such as homosexuality etc. has showen that Ghanaians are far from understanding international human standards. Everything out of the norm is generally criminalized or stigmatized in Ghana.
Good luck, Dr. Osei!

Beeing a Chief Psychiatrist in Ghana must be like beeing an ape with a Playstation 3. How does it feel to be an one eyed amongst 23 Mio. blinds?

I TOTALLY IN AGREEMENT WITH YOU. WHY PROSECUTE SOME ONE WHO EITHER HAS MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS OF CRYING FOR HELP? INSTEAD OF HELPING THEM OUT YOU WANT TO PROSECUTE AND PUT THEM IN JAIL FOR WHAT? THIS IS A REALLY MESSED UP SOCIETY. NO WONDER THERE IS NO PROGRESS IN THE COUNTRY BECAUSE OF POOR PRIORITIES. GET THEM HELP AND TREATMENT AND STOP PUTTING THEM IN JAIL. THEY HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH SO STOP THE HUMILIATION.

The authorities like our noble Chief Psychiatrist will need the powers to section such people under the Mental Health Act and decriminalizing it will make their work harder and not easy.
I think the noble man used the inappropriate word, if not, then he should try and reason with legal minds to understand the ramifications of law in that sector.

ON THE SUBSTANTIVE ISSUE,I AGREE WITH THE CHIEF PSYCHIATRIST, SINCE THE TREND IN MOST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES IS NOT PROSECUTING PEOPLE WHO ATTEMPT TO COMMIT SUICIDE (EXCEPT WHEN THE METHOD THEY EMPLOY IN THEIR ATTEMPT EXPOSE SOMEONE ELSE OR OTHER PEOPLE TO EXTREME DANGER. HOPEFULLY THE STATE CAN PAY ATTENTION TO THE UNDERLYING CAUSES WHICH PUSH INDIVIDUALS TO THE EDGE AND CAUSE TO ATTEMPT TO TAKE THEIR OWN LIVES.
