If the biometric verification does not make sense than the question is, was the biometric verification, debated deeply before passing into law? Was parliament able to think deep and come out with answers to some obstacles that will pop up rendering the verification a useless venture? If no, then it seems our leaders have no brains to think deep. These are some of the problems facing us as a nation because we lack "critical thinking".
This biometric exercise can work where the people behave like "real humans" but not in Ghana where we have animals parading as humans who lack commons understanding. A law is a law and it is humans who will make a law work better.
Additionally, no system can work better in Ghana if the people are not prepared to change their sense of thinking and allowed the "rule of law" to exact its toll on those who will go against it. There is nothing wrong with the system we have but the problem hampering its smooth operation is the people. We have attitude and we are not honest. Ghanaians hate to be truthful. We believe in lies and what is the rule of law to the "educated elite" in our society let alone the ordinary man/woman? There is no nation on this planet that is well developed in which the people are dishonest and disrespect the rule of law. We are our own enemies because we are fill his dishonest practices and trampled on the rule of law.

I think people/politicians simply bought into the hype of the biometrics which was marketed perhaps as fool proof therefore led to the "No verification no vote" law. It seems that very few countries have adopted the biometrics systems for voting and my observation was they were mostly third world or less developed countries – Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Brazil with high illiteracy rates.
In my opinion the money spent on biometrics considering we don’t have the infrastructure to support it, could have been spent on providing national ID cards or cleaning out the electoral process. In the end it seems the use of the system was more trouble than it was worth – leading to slow, long waits on election day(s) and eventually, controversy in court.
My hope though is that the electoral process would be sanitized by the next elections.

To add a few on your correct points. The motto "No verification, No votes" was not properly communicated because it was wrongly understood by many people and created at long last hindrances. Dr. Afari Gyan who lead the idea is one to be blame. He was is paying to communicate righteously to the public, unfortunately, his message create the understanding that, one should register and pass throug the verification maschines to stop alliens to vote for NDC. But at the end it was allowed. I am now asking myself the use of this verification mashines if everyone is allowed to vote without been verified?
The idea of "No verification, No vote" is a good one but corrupt justices and EC organise one voice and mantain it. A change of the rules by the NDC government must be sabotage by all oposition parties to avoid manipulation of the system.
We need true and patriot Ghanaians and not slave drived justices and leaders.

It is sad how politicians argue about protecting votes. Elections are not just about votes which is the end product but the process of voting too. All votes become devalued if the process is corrupt and not streamlined. Hence the introduction of the biometric verification. No election can have 100% of registered voters voting.Even democracies that have existed for centuries such as the Americans hardly get 50% of the electorates voting and if you are not verified you do not vote, so that even with a low voting at the end of the day they get the true reflection of the intent of the majority voters. In Africa we corrupt the process and people vote without verification, etc so the outcome is always not the reflection of the majority and the voters always questioning the results. The votes are devalued because if I vote once and another person is able to vote 5 times, my vote has no value now, In the end politicians will not come out and ask for our votes no more because they can seat in their offices and plot how to corrupt the system or process of voting using the flaws in the process. Protecting the process to vote is just as important as protecting the vote. I will rather be turned away from voting because I'm not verified rather than vote knowing that another person that is not eligible to vote can also vote because he can not be verified.

it was strange that after the elections of 2012, about 2000 electoral officers failed to sign the declared results. this could not be a coincidence. there might be some reasons why they did not sign. did they not get paid for the job that day? I personally smell a mighty elephant in this conspiracy other wise the elephants would not have gone to the supreme court with the sort of confidence they exhibited through out the trial. I dearly need an answer to this question. if the electoral officers did not get paid for the job, they would have raised some protest by now. I strongly believe that something fishy went on between them and the elephant people. I am happy that some reforms will be carried out to strengthen our electoral process. I strongly suggest that it becomes mandatory in future that all electoral officers should sign their column else will be made to face some sanctions. there should be a box on the declared result form for any electoral officer who did not sign to indicate why he did not sign. I also wish that those 2000 electoral officers who did not sign on the declared result sheets last year are made to explain why they did not sign. they should be ashamed of themselves for failing to perform their patriotic responsibility. if they did allow themselves to be bribed to do what they did, God will punish all of them one day. shameless Ghanaians!

Issaka are you saying all the 2000 electoral officers who did not sign were representing the elephant party? I've always said, in Ghana, people prefer confusion and weak systems so they can manipulate the system to their advantage. Teachers have been used in previous elections and though the results have been somehow contested, we have not had the type of comedy errors we had in this election. Most of these electoral officers like you said are not patriotic, that explains why so many of them were swayed by 50 cedis stuffed in match boxes distributed by the umbrella party. There has also been reports that some electoral officers were not fed by their party (mighty elephant) and were at the mercy of the opposing party's well fed officers. A hungry man is an angry man.
No wonder you have politicians shouting at the top of their voices that an election is won at the polling station. If the wrong person comes into power through foul means, the whole country suffers.

This is what some of us have been saying for a long time. Those provisions infringe the Constitution and the respondents should have argued thus in court and allowed the SC Justices to declare them as unconst'nal. Had they done so, all the Justices would be faced with no option than to rule against that relief being sought.
Now that the case is over, we are being told that there is indeed a problem with that regulation and its interpretation. We sane people knew that long time already.
Also, to be reviewed is suing the winner as 1st respondent.

This person is being described as an expect?? Outrageous, is an understatement. Really, does he understand what he is saying? Has he forgotten the history of elections in the country? How can he argue against the BVD?? Why are we requiring Biometric Passports now in every country? Is it not the same process? There are many countries in Africa, India, and South America that uses verification devises, without complaint. The EC may have bought an older system or they intentionally played dumb in the use of the machines. People, have you all forgotten that the machines which did not work on the 7th worked perfectly fine on the 8th without any adjustment or work done on them? Whatever happened to the machines on election day was a ploy by the EC officials to cheat. In Ghana there are many people with the same name, and same birth dates. How do you propose to distinguish them? How do you propose to deal with multiple registrations? How do you propose to deal with impersonation? Finger Printing verification, has become standard procedure the world over and there are many BVD's that work. We should seek to make the devices work more efficiently. When the EC side stepped the traditional election Presiding officers which are TEACHERS, and with political pressure uses blockhead NDC foot soldiers who could not read, let alone operate the machines, what do you expect. I think there must be a qualification for a person to become a presiding Officer. At least the person must have more than SSS education.

The argument of this so-called expert is very absurd. Per the standard operation of any biometric verification machine worth its salt, the scenarios he cited can only happen when after the biometric registration, the said person gets involved in an incident which leads to serious damage to the target organ (eg decapitation of the hand/damage to the eye) used for biometric registration. In such limited situations, CI75 provides ample solutions as to how to handle such peculiarities, hence I submit that the expert got it very very!!! wrong
