I attribute wastage in water distribution to poor planning and construction. The principle consideration in water generation and distribution is fire fighting besides consumption. We talk about fire fighting but no fire hydrants anywhere. What this means is when there is fire the fire fighters will do something but that will not save any property because fighting fire using trucks is woefully insufficient. Most distribution mains are exposed and when there is water stoppage you get inflow of germs causing diseases. Better designs and construction will do the trick. By the way, does Ghana have a plumbing code?

Considering the amount of money we spend on our mobile phone top-up units every month with all the call drops, the electric utilities deserve some adjustment to help us power our phones at least. Maybe 166% is too much, but a more realistic adjustment will be a win-win scenario.

People beg and bribe Electricity Company, pacify Water Corporation to extend connections to homes or workshops. FOR PROVISION THEY SELL FOR MONEY! And when all is done the dumsor, dumsor starts. And no one is responsible. No one cares.
But we are not finished. State Big Officials, Military Generals make more use of utility supply, but they never pay their quota. An unwritten right but fear of losing his bread the Electric or Water Boss cannot talk.
Members of Parliament hold the state to/at ransom, no cars no sitting. No house, no work.
They are allowed to borrow more than they could ever live to pay. Meanwhile Pastors tell us “somebody has cursed the economy”, another grave nonsense.
So we need to pray, as if prayers are bribes for the Gods.
The result Africans are laughing stocks wherever we are in the world.
Now they tell us tax and tariff increases because Zongo people are rich. They just celebrated Sallah, the festival chicken, a mighty blessing, from heaven

This article clears shows the level of rot and managerial incompetence that has characterized the operations of our institutions and the lack of any clear cut policy intervention and solutions which actually goes to the very core of the issues so identified and the political will and power to bring it to fruition, in consultation with the various stakeholders and players, with a view to establish a framework to mitigate the circumstances of such gross wastage, operational inefficiencies and losses, debt management, revenue mobilization and consolidation, investment drive and the finances to improve on the infrastructural deficits and lon term goals of these utility companies. It's completely absurd, that the needed investments needed to be made should be coming from the consumers who at best, do not even enjoy what they are paying for, let alone, access it in this era of high taxes across board on almost everything, which is conveniently, the most easiest way, as confirmed by most pundits, by a political establishment lacking in ideas, the knowhow, the mental capacity, and drive, to initiate and actually bring to fruition, well thought through formulated policy interventions, to fix the issues. The NDC gov't is a failure by all standards and Ghana clearly is suffering from this lack of resourcefulness to tackle the issues.
