1. he argues that profit-making private universities disguise should themselves as NGOs or charities and dodger taxes?
2. Why don't he set a transparent and accountable system in Central Gospel Church to publish to church members tithes, offerings, etc inomes and expenditure for the year.
3. How much check and balance systems has been put in place for members to evaluate whether church incomes are actually used to do exactly what God say must be used for?
Yet he demands good policies from others whilst he is not ready to give one?

When you preached on AIRWAVES telling Ghanaians that IF ANYBODY NEED GOOD EDUCATION FOR HIS OR HER CHILD,ONE NEED TO PAY.FREE things are Bad So good education need proper finance.
When NDC used your words which you preached on Air Waves to support their Policy, you came out and condenmed them as DEVILS. I don't think you are not the real Devil. Now you are proposing a policy for Africa and when POLITICIANS try to adopt it, then you can insult them again. If you have a good Policies for only one party like NPP as you like, then go and preach them in chambers. you are now EXPOSED.HYPOCRATE like you. Nobody will take you serious only your NPP.
Anyway, I understand your problem, NDC should have come to you to PAY for something you have said on Radio, before, also use for their campaign.
God will really punish you for calling some people Devil incarnate. That your School(University) don't you Charge money? PASTORS ROBBING PEOPLE THRU TITHES
....................................
I thought we've come to the end of our discussion on tithing but some have wondered how the church could be financed if there is no tithing ? They seem to have missed the point about FREEWILL OFFERINGS, by which the Lord Jesus and the disciples were supported. We need to let the people know the truth of God's Word which shall set them free. John 8:32. When the people know the truth, then they can decide what to do with it, but we don't have to lie to them, to fabricate things which the Word of God does not say. While it takes money to support the church, we have no right or authority to put any burdens upon the Lord's people, to threaten them, to intimidate them or bring them under condemnation or guilt or curse them because of tithes. After all, the Lord Jesus died freely for all mankind but He did not demand any money from anyone before He went to the cross ! We should stop evoking Malachi 3:8-10 and other Scriptures to terrorize and bamboozle the Lord's people into giving, but teach them the truth and exhort them so they could support the Lord's work with cheerful hearts, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Let us examine ourselves to see why we're in the ministry in the first place ? Has the Lord called you ? Did He call you to make yourself comfortable and live extravagantly while His sheep are so poor and wretched ? To squeeze money out of poor people to satisfy your selfish interest ? To build up business empires for yourself at the expense of the Lord's people ? In short, are you in the ministry to FLEECE the Lord's people instead of FEEDING them ? "....should not the shepherds feed the flocks ?.....I will both search My sheep and seek them out." Ezekiel 34:1-11. Did He call you to make yourself a lord over His people or to serve them and lead them to Him ? Leadership is not lordship, but being good examples to the flock of God which He bought with His own blood, feeding but not fleecing them ! Further, is your love and trust in the Lord or in the tithe ?
And for his work, the shepherd( pastor, prophet, apostle, whatever) must be supported by those he serves as undershepherd, the Lord Jesus Himself being the Chief Shepherd. 1 Peter 5:4. Faithful shepherds or ministers who labour for the Lord's work need to be supported, but you don't do it grudgingly and not as a burden, but lovingly as a child of God. 1 Corinthians 9:13-14.
Jesus was supported by some people including Susanna, Joanna, Mary and many others. Luke 8:2-3. The apostles were also supported by individuals and the churches. Acts 4:34-37; Philippians 4:15-16; Acts 11:29-30; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. The Philippian church was exemplary in giving because they took particular care of Paul's needs, and so should every church, group or fellowship take good care of their leaders who serve them faithfully.
We cannot afford to neglect our leaders who the Lord chooses to labour alongside Him in His vineyard. If they minister to us in spiritual things, we're also to minister to them in carnal things and whatever we could afford, but as the Bible says, we need to do it in love and cheerfully. In giving, let us remember to give our best and not some leftovers, because God gave us His best, His only begotten Son ! Whatever the case may be, we should not give under any compulsion or threats whatsoever.
Even though proponents of tithing cannot prove their position from the Scriptures, many are still adamant in getting the tithe. Instead of repenting from the sin of teaching a false doctrine and robbing and stealing from God's people, they persist in their greed and love for money, and the prophet Isaiah has a timely word for them:
" Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, everyone for his gain, from his quarter." Isaiah 56:11.
But now you know the truth, so let the truth set you free, and don't be cajoled into tithing by anyone, be they prophets, apostles, bishops or archbishops. None of them can claim to be better than the apostle Paul, let alone the Lord Jesus Himself. Paul was a Pharisee who knew all the Mosaic laws, yet when it was necessary, he had to "rob other churches," to serve the Corinthians. 2 Cor 11:8. In other words, Paul had to accept support from other churches in order to serve the Corinthians. If the Lord, or Paul or any of the apostles did not collect tithes from anyone, but depended on voluntary support, why should you allow anyone to tell you to pay tithes ?
Modern-day tithing is a false doctrine brought into the church either by ignorance or greed, and has gone on for generations and we don't expect that this brainwashing would disappear overnight. This is just a small start and we're going to keep the tempo till all the greedy and false preachers repent or get out of the pulpits and stop taking the name of the Lord in vain. But watch out, they would come to you with lying words to try and rob you and steal your money:
" But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you....and through covetousness(greed), shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you......." 2 Peter 2:1-3.
Give cheerfully to the Lord's work, but don't be deceived any longer !

The enemy's relentless attack on the revealed word of God's institutions is still being fought in the arena of the human heart. Using the art of sophistry, the enemy caused Adam and Eve not only to lose their Edenic home, but also face an eventual death. It is this "give- me-your-will attitude the enemy is cleverly using to cause you to fail in your stewardship responsibilities to God by not paying the tithes, an important duty of loyalty.
This rehashed casuistic position that NT believers do not need to pay tithes is definitely not godlike; it is satanic, designed to slow down the propagation of the gospel (Matthew 28:19-20) to a screeching halt. It is a sorry idea for a sermon (if it was).
As part of stewardship, tithing emerges in the Genesis 14:20 as an extant principle in the revelation of God's word, (Deuteronomy 14:22) so to view tithing in its original form, we will need a clear vision of man before he sinned, the life in Eden before the fall where we learn the principle of Adam's free access to all creation except the tree of knowledge and evil(Genesis 2:16-17) To say tithing was given to the Jews is to betray one's lack of understanding of the Scriptures.
Thank God we have a few churches like Otabil's who see the tithe as still relevant in the NT church.
Although the Levitical priesthood (which received the tithes--Leviticus 27:30) had lost its significance at the ratification of the covenant of grace by Christ at Calvary, it is the NT church which assumed the priesthood of the OT. Hence the believers ability to receive tithes.
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).
Jesus saw the hypocritical abuse of the tithing system by the Jews of his day. But he never belittled their sense of tithe payments. Like his Law, it will continue to be operational in the lives of his people long after he had physically left the earth (Matthew 24:20, John 15:10, Revelation 12:17).
The fact that tithing has witnessed a lot of abuse by some apostate churches does not mean that it is no longer relevant in New Testament times.
God is seeking a people who will obey him in every aspect of their lives, even when obeying him might not be popular.
"For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel" (1 Corinthians 9:9-14).
"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matthew 16:24-26).

Ghana and its corporate institution must respect, enforce and obey the laws. Also Ghanaians should not support the corrupted institutions.Rather they should protest against wrongdoings of their corporate institutions and their leaders. Courts must be fair and just when applying the laws.Judges, police officers and lawyers must practice justice and refrain from corruption, Ghana!!! Politicians, leaders and individuals who abuse the system or offend the law must not be dealt with in strong terms. No one must be above the law and be spared. Otabil, is doing nothing wrong by giving his personal views on the numerous challenges facing Africa.
He made three points in his speech which I agree with: 1. lack of accountability, 2. lack of direction--
African countries are running like a "rider-less horse" with so much "momentum" but "lacking direction", 3.
lack of regulations--"Ghana as a country has failed to put in the necessary regulatory and infrastructural framework to accommodate such great minds and ideas."
These three problems are some of the common signs and symptoms of the degenerative diseases of Ghana's losing struggle in becoming developed.
A visitor to Ghana today soon finds out that the country has very poor addressing system in place. Many streets are without names, and houses without numbers. How will a business extend credit to someone who doesn't even have a verifiable home address?
Africa needs leaders with a vision to prevent the drift of morality into worldly prudence or degenerate into casuistry. Moral uprightness in leadership will certainly make accountability a a normative and proactive choice.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he" (Proverbs 29:18).
Note one of the saddest times in Israel's history as a nation.
"In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes" (Judges 17:6).
The OT is replete with prophets who were used by God to advise kings on national issues. Case in point was a dream revelation to Pharaoh of a devastating famine to hit Egypt which could only be palliated by storing grain during the time of plenty. God used Joseph to interpret correctly Pharaoh's dream.
We need more men and women who have a burden on their hearts to help Africa to achieve economic and social independence. Thank you Otabil!

First of all he must direct his attention to the house of God where there is so much filth among the pastors you can not believe. When our pastors become people of honesty their flock also become honest. If the Pastors become men and women of vision the people will become same. The next in line should be our media houses putting Ghana first and believing in the saying the pen is mightier than the sod. Our media houses is full of half baked journalist who do not even understand the present world order let alone helping the populace appreciate anything good.Followed closely by the Judiciary and the Police service. This is the only way there can be accountability. If the law does not work, everybody's aim is to dupe the system. We blame the politicians but in fact we are all corrupt and until we look ourselves in the mirror and admit to our hypocrisy there is no future for the country no matter how good our leaders are. We had a honest President called Mills what happened to him ? We had Limann what happened to him ? Our system is so corrupt it is difficult for the few good ones to step in and help. We need to remember charity begins at home so he should preach honesty, hard work and the notion service to man is service to God to his congregation and the other churches . God Bless !!!!!!!!!!!

The problem has, however, been IMPLEMENTATION. Ghana has all the frameworks. The issue is about rule of law. When laws are not obeyed or followed the whole system brakes. In my candid opinion the juciary could do a lot more by enforcing the laws as it should be without fear or favour. In Ghana, we have lots of billionaires be they private businessmen or public officials without anyboby questioning their source of wealth. If somebody appears to be so rich find out how much tax he has paid to the government, this is a very simple mechanism to track corruption.

First of all, you don't attend ICGC so you have no idea how the church is run. Whatever you are saying is hearsay. You equally don't need a whole congregation to make policies and implement them. You only need the executives as it were in a company, who are also representatives of the grassroots. I know for a fact that, he has built a varsity which beneficial to the church, communities and the citizenry. Government and for that matter institutions must have policies to guide them implement visions. Government recognizes food produced in rural areas are unable to reach urban areas due to bad roads. He must have a clear policy to flood the markets with those unreachable foods by tackling the roads. That is what the good Dr is talking about. If you have no understanding, please spare us your ignorance.

How can Ghanaians be creative when they are held back by charlatan people like you and your snake oil salesmen cohorts 24/7 365 days year in and out?

They hate him because he says it like it is and don't give a damn about it. Do you know that our government pays people to go to USA or UK for conference on leadership. Yet, when Otabil offers to them freely and willingly, the fool soldiers descend on him because they know who the cap fits.
Leadership is not only about government leaders, but a father or maother is a leader at home. The bank manager is a leader. The shop owner is a leader. The senior prefect in your school is a leader. The headmaster or the principal is a leader and certainly the pastor is a leader. Just imaging everyone of us know how to lead well in their field, the President would not have had much difficult leading the Nation.
Those who think, Otabil should shut up and talk about Moses walking on wilderness need their heads examined. The Gospel is meant for our daily lives and not about Isrealites in the Middle East. Or just talking about when Jesus walked on the waters or raised up Lazarus.
The parable of Sower is meant for Ghana and thank God Otabil is teaching those who have ears to hear. The seed can do very little when the environment is destroyed. The environment here is Ghana, which has been destroyed by our greedy bastards. The Ameican dream is all about making the environment fertile and that is why even foreign cleaners are making it there, while university graduates in Ghana are on internet trying to find guys who will buy them a ticket to leave the country.
Even if the environment happens to be good and seed starts to germinate, there is no one to water and nourish it to grow well. This is about those bright students who excel in school and yet there is no one to help them; no help from the government or the family. Someone wrote about Kristo Asafo guy who has been trying years to get help from Government but can't.
When the seed is able to grow and about to produce fruits, they are choked by the thorns. The thorns represents the "pull him down," especially, the educated elite that Rawlings called "old evil dwarfs." They will frustrate you and tell you to go to hell. They can also be found in your family, and in a party like NPP, where all hairs on your private parts have to be gray before you can call you to serve. It is also in the NDC, do you know that Mills refused to work with SPIO and Mahama has refused to work with him. WHY? Yet, he could work with Ablakwa, Vicky Hammah, Bisiw, Nii Lante and others.
Let God help us to give us many sowers (great leaders) to till well the land (Ghana) and help to plant, water and nourish the seeds (talents/people) for US.
God bless our homeland Ghana!

Pastor Mensah Otabil is, in my opinion, very right when he asserted that, politics is not about winning elections.
Unfortunately presently in Ghana, politics is about winning elections. Everybody wants to win an election "by all means". We spend all the 4 years of a government's mandate before or after an election campaigning (and counter-campaigning) and doing propaganda (and counter-propaganda). This is a big distraction from settling down to formulate policies that will affect the citizenry positively.
Those who fail to win an election think their world has collapsed and they must do everything to reverse the results or frustrate those who have won. It is either, you win or the country collapses – after all, “all die be die.”
No serious country, whose people understand how precious time means to a country's destiny, will spend nearly 9 months disputing an election result. This is simply a waste of time. The fact is, even if the petitioners win, they have barely 3 years to rule and having caused so much disaffection in about half the population already, they stand the chance of failing to deliver if given the chance. But to them, this does not matter because, the only thing that matters is: winning an election – helping to formulate policies that will affect the citizenry positively does not matter.

We have to fix our political system vis-à-vis our external competitors. Mark Zuckerberg stole somebody's ideas yet he had money and connections to prevail. Africa is too weak politically to muster any serious challenge developmentally. Sad, Otabil does not even understand this.

"Quick," said the woman to her lover, "into the closet!" and she pushed him in the closet, stark naked.
The husband, however, became suspicious and after a search of the bedroom discovered the man in the closet. "Who are you?" he asked.
"I'm an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone," said the exterminator.
"What are you doing in there?" the husband asked.
"I'm investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths," the man replied.
"And where are your clothes?" asked the husband.
The man looked down at himself and said, "Those little bastards with sharp teeth"

Somebody should shut this guy up. If he wants to be in the forefront in the formulation of policies, he should leave the comfort of the pulpit and join the poilticians. It is easy to brainwash people with some issues that happened over 5000 years ago and get them to give you the little they have in the name of tithe. It is not the same with politics because the isn't a template to follow. What will work for the people in Albania will not necessarily work for those in Tibet. If he is swimming in the wealth he has acquired preaching the "word", he should just start with the congregation of his church and see how many of them will be like him in 20 years

Did you see what is happening in Egypt? It is an offshoot of corruption in Africa.Talking about accountability, give Akuffo Addo credit because this is the start of Ghanaian renaissance where the citizens are fed up with stealing polls etc.Talking about leadership, what do you teach your members aside from them becoming pastors like you. Do you mentor them to become corporate leaders in a rudderless environment where there is no infrastructure as you stated yourself? See Egyptians are dying for something . They are dying for democracry and the rule of law which ever side was wrong. Ghanaians don't stand up for their cause because of the 'fama Nyame' mentality. That is why Mugabe was able to rule for life. Not in Egypt. l pray that Egypt finds a solution to this military problem, but they have shown that they will not take anything less than democracy. Good luck on your leadership lectures

Stupidity has become something very inherent in some people. Papa Otabil is telling the whole country the plain truth. Let's ponder over just some few issues here: What type of policies do we have for the country in the underlisted areas and are they working?
1. Education
2. Science
3. Agriculture
5. Technical
6. Infrastructure
7. Morals
The past and current governments' policies have they benefited the country? Are we self-sufficient in basic food production? Africa has become a bowl-continent that must be filled by nations and continents that do not have the type of natural resources she has. Sister nation Nigeria is not supposed to be in such economic mess that she finds herself in now. Nigeria had the Ajaokuta Steel Mills - a project that could have catapulted Nigeria into an industrial giant on the continent. She was encouraged to abandon it because the West saw it as a strong opposition to their economic strangulation on Africa. Bob Marley says "EMANCIPATE YOURSELF FROM MENTAL SLAVERY, NONE BUT OURSELVES CAN FREE OUR MINDS".
The average person is who he is by his thinking - POLICY (planning).
Please, learn to see something good in what people with vision have to offer. His advice if free, but decision taking is personal.
Thank you.

Reading the way people are bashing Otabil makes me conclude that Ghana has a long way to go. I won't say those commenting are illiterates because they write good English. But their reasoning is like people in 200 BC. Prehistoric era. Otabil is talking as a Ghanaian and not as a pastor. These so called commentators think of nothing but to defend politicians who are making life unbearable for them. And I know most of them are those who can't afford two meals a day. It's so sad. Until Ghanaians stop this stupidity, they will wallow in poverty forever. Amen.

The Ghanaian cannot manage his own affairs. We only worship villains and rogues in Ghana. The independence we fought for is useless. The white man must come back and knock sense into our heads. In fact, we lack the qualities needed for building a great nation. Nkrumah and co. came to waste our time. Factories and free education alone cannot make a nation great. We need to have a common morality and specific set of principles to guide us. Leaders who come to advertise themselves cannot build a great nations. We honour our fore fathers because they left behind traditions that we still cherish. Do we have anything left behind by past leaders that we cherish. The intellectuals are the worse. They are a curse on Africa. By the way policies alone cannot build Ghana. Tetteh Quashie implemented his plan and we have cocoa industry. Is it not a shame that an illiterate established cocoa industry and succeeded but graduates established factories and ran them down. SHAME, EDUCATED PEOPLE

The problem in most of Africa is there no group to contest government policies. The private sector is weak and the business owners and their managers are all fragmented into political camps.
As a result--the governments are de-facto dictatorships or at best one-party led. Take Ghana for example--NPP as opposition is confused--so basically (despite the petition at the SC) there is no contest. Mahama and NDC basically will have their way.

One thing you guys don't know is that when a Minister of God feels he/she has achieve what many men and women of God has not achieve pride and arrogance enters him/her, and because people are still singing his/her praises it is difficult for him/her to know or accept he/she backsliding fast. When you see a Minister of God deviating from the concept of his/her call from the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gospel of Political issues there is every indication he/she has backslided from the Christian faith. Look the Devil and his Demons do not care whether you have a large congregation, and a University or not. Greater men and women of God have been and are still victims of this Spiritual Pride. Otabil is very proud; he used to be my role model of humility and focus on the call of God until he started deviating into Political Fanaticism and Tribalism. Otabil should leave other African countries alone; they also have their own Ministers of God to worry about their country.
