Ministers saving government loans in their individual foreign accounts and keeping the interest accrued before releasing the capital to nation's coffers. It looks like Canada is garnering a reputation of being a gay-friendly country.
As reported by the Globe and Mail, that seems to be a growing consensus among Russians whose government recently imposed anti-gay laws.
Lawyer Rob Hughes, who is representing two gay Russian men claiming refugee status in Canada, says he expects more Russians to make claims based on sexual orientation.
Mr. Hughes, who focuses on sexual orientation and gender-based claims, says his two clients told him numerous people in Russia have expressed interest about seeking asylum in Canada.
The Globe quotes newly minted Immigration Minister Chris Alexander who says that these types of asylum cases "will of course be looked at very seriously by our very generous system."
In an email exchange with Yahoo! Canada News, Alexander's press secretary reiterated the minister's comments but clarified that decisions made by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) are made without government interference.
"Canada has a fair and generous immigration system," Alexis Pavlich said.
"Refugee claims are heard by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
"The IRB is a quasi-judicial, independent body, which provides a fair hearing to asylum claimants. Decisions are made based on the merits of the specific facts presented in an individual case, and in accordance with Canada’s immigration laws."

Canada has, however, been proactive in the recent past in resettling gay refugees from transitional camps abroad.
Last year the Associated Press reported that Canada relocated approximately 100 homosexual Iranians from a refugee camp in Turkey.
"Canada has indicated to the United Nations that we are ready to accept anyone, if they're a gay Iranian refugee," former immigration minister Jason Kenney told AP referencing asylum claimants in Turkey who felt threatened because of their sexual orientation.
Saghi Ghahraman of the Iranian Queer Organization told AP that Canada is a favoured destination.
"They prefer Canada over other countries, when they leave Iran, and they have very good reasons for this," she said.
"[It's a] friendly and supportive society, and with great social services which are utterly crucial for most gay, lesbian, and transsexual Iranians who need all the support when they arrive in a new country."

There was a time that the left accused the Harper Conservatives of being anti-gay: They're against 'gay marriage' and 'they don't attend pride parades' was the common refrain from supporters of the opposition parties.

1. It reveals his loyalty to the Party,

2. On the other hand, it might have undermined the pride of Sir John - he may take it wrongly as a disgrace to himself, that had it not be P.C he (Sir John) would have been sent to jail.

P.C., Human Behavior is very complex okay? A word to the wise is enough! Next time advise yourself before you start throwing your money away. You should have allowed Sir John to pay the fine himself to enable him feel the through impact of loose talk.

A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication. She got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys in the car.

She didn't know what to do, so she called home and told the baby sitter what had happened. The baby sitter told her that her the fever was getting worse. She said, "You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door."

The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time or other had locked their keys in their car. Then she looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use this."

So she bowed her head and asked God to send her some help. Within five minutes an old rusty car pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head. The woman thought, "This is what you sent to help me?" But, she was desperate, so she was also very thankful.

The man got out of his car and asked her if he could help. She said, "Yes, my daughter is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?"

He said, "Sure". He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was opened. She hugged the man and through her tears she said, "Thank You So Much! You are a very nice man."

The man replied, "Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison for car theft and have only been out for about an hour."

The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud, "Oh, Thank you God! You even sent me a Professional!"

P C Appiah Ofori's whining about not being thanked by anybody less than 24 hrs after his antics smacks of mischief. The man has been mischievous & cantankerous throughout his association with the NPP. One sometimes wonder if he is a true party man or a well-camouflaged NDC mole, considering the lies he told about $5,000 bribe being paid by Vodafone to each NPP MP during the acquisition of a chunk of Ghana Telecom by Vodafone.

His demand of a nationwide announcement of his unprecedented feat by parting with 7 grand in court by the NPP before he will be satisfied that people appreciate what he did clearly shows how sinister, infantile & petty he can be. The man expected an announcement of his unsolicited donation to be made on BBC World Service first thing the day after the donation.
For a man who could tell the whole world that his wife of several decades had infected him with gonorrhoea, this childish behavior from him is nothing strange.
Sir John was in a position to sort himself out. The party or a more descent party faithful would have done it for Hopeson. What Appiah Ofori did amounted to forcing Sir John & Hopeson to accept a poisoned chalice.

That was a great move! I believe Mr. Appiah-Ofori rushed to the SC to make that payment although someone like him in the party would have paid it off without making any bad news in the media.

Personally, I won't make any public comments after paying off the fines on behalf of the NPP members who were slapped with the fines. For him making such a public statement, Mr. Appiah-Ofori should understand that nobody on this earth will say: "thank you" to him. I wonder who's going to thank him after make such weird public statements. Our leaders, like P. C. Appiah-Ofori should learn to control their tongue and attitude, for the future and well-being and the cohersion and unity of the party. Let's united this moment, even more than ever while we await the Supreme Court verdict. May God bless the NPP. Our victory will be a total victory for Ghana, Africa and our collective progress as a nation and a continent.
