legacy of the pepeni and his murder of mills is nothing but sorrow, misery and poverty while he and his cronies boldly continue to loot the country. this is understandable since they are not Akans, they do not care as they know the wealth of the nation does not belong to them , its a take/steal money and run mentality that drives them. They have no solutions because they are too feeble minded and reality deep down they know its only by theft , trickery , election engineering /rigging , ideological lies and camouflage that they are there now and know it can not last . The national security is going round spreading the word they have the supreme court under control and have ensured the petition will not succeed , i guess they are able to blackmail the judges after all so there will be no justice . The national security has an interest to keep pepeni in place as there is not a single corruption act that goes on whereby they dont have a cut . they know if pepeni goes over 80% of them will be out of a job as thats the first place any true patriotic govt will clean up. we know all this will sooner or later lead to war and we are ready , long live the republic of Akan

Good job done for now. But, the overall power situation in Ghana is still short-term in a sense.
On permanent bases, whilst we 'enjoy' this blip of relief from rather long crisis of energy supply there is an imperative need for planners to think ahead and eliminate issues of shortages in the future.
ECG should also take the opportunity to improve upon maintenance of facilities to mitigate any much blame on techical issues. With ECG in general, bringing in private competitors in retail power distribution would curb too much monopoly in their hands that has bred ineffeciencies. After all, if ECG is not breaking-even or make profits for the govt why keep them and still not allowing competition?
Finally, even though hydro power is cheaper, overall environmental studies reveal that climate change would result in drying of inland water bodies thereby adversely affecting dependencies on hydro energy. In that sense, Ghana must start looking to replace the Akosombo hydro in the certain future as already challenging effects of ageing of that plant is much more seen today.

I am not a pessimist, but I am sorry to say my advice is that "Nobody should rush to get rid of their candles and kerosene lanterns.
Mahama isn't the 1st president to promise daylight but delivered darkness.
As for your advise about Ghana's long term energy requirements & planning, I can only say read Pastor Otabil's (this weekend)observation that NO African leader has a development plan longer that ONE year, even that!!
When Nkrumah finished Akosombo, Ghana's population was around 12 million. We should have at least doubled the Mega Watts output, just to stand still, and quadrupled it to cater for economic growth.
Have we? Can we? Would we?

Thanks for your good thoughts my kind brother. I read about that Otabil's statement you are refering to on this platform. Look, I opined that Otabil had better not mentioned that problem at all if the problem was meant to search for its own answers. In a sense, that was not news and that mentioning that particular problem is something primary school children in Ghana can without even thinking do, because if there was any good vision how would they ever perish the way they do? If that statement was true, what I expected Otabil was to rather provide solutions.
Anyway, I think deliberate attempt must be made based on long term visions and drawn on a programme of action starting with the basic necessities like Food, water, shelter, clothing, education, etc. with all execution details and through referendum pass it to form part of our constitution subject to amendment only after the set out goals are achieved. In this case, no govt in power by the demands of the constitution would set up their own plans or vision. If they refuse or cannot work with the constitution, they stand aside. What do you suggest?

I agree with you, but again I am sorry to say (especially in reference to your last paragraph) that Ghana's political class has not reached that level of sophistication and understanding to implement your ideas..sound though they are.
So called Foot soldiers have been burning down government property as their "constitutional" answer for the presidents appointees they (foot soldiers)don't like. But the president had a constitutional mandate to make those appointments.
So Seth, what chance has a referendum got as an instrument of governance?

Writing about leader not sleeping will never ever be a news when it comes to people like me. Most of African leaders understand leadership is a part of enjoyment of life. For example, if you see leaders who really work hard at the top of that position, they always develop gray hair or white hair. What I missed in African leaders is that, they do not do their work at all to a point that, at the time of developing white hair, they rather developed black hair even though they are old. What does it tells you? meaning they enjoy making money at that position by means of corruption, stealing. For example: Somebody like kufour supposed to would have develop grey hair but yet at end of is term in office, he still have black hair upon all that is age and number of years he spent as president. What that means, he sleep without doing anything other than calculating the money he made through stealing and corrupt activities that he engaged. At the same time pregnanting women while as a president of Ghana. Frankly speaking, that man is most disgraced leader Ghana has ever got.
However, when it comes to Rawlings, this man started developing grey hair when he was even young, that tells you how hard working he was doing. In reality one can easily see how JJ put Ghana back into global map during his time in office. Look at Obama the same and some world leaders. Is unfortunate that, because of enjoying corruption, most of African leaders will never ever develop the grey hair. As a result of lack of stress of leadership. Frankly speaking, there is no leader who will not develop stress when you are there. So, I look at this as strange when it come to the part of African leaders.

Telling the story to a friend the next day at the local

"Boy are you ignorant! Now here's how I do it. When

I was an npp supporter but frankly speaking, the sitting president has done what k4 and co could not do in eight years. I wish the npp will not make any comment on this achievement because if they do, then they are a total shameless people. k4 did not give credit to tsatsu tsikata for all that he singlehandedly did for Ghana to be an oil producer today. he did not mention tsatsu's name any where regarding the oil find. instead, he rather mentioned the name of once a wicked and a bloody leader of our country, busia as from whose era oil was discovered in Ghana. sometimes I wonder if such characters believe that we have a GOD up there. do they think they are going to live forever? do they sometimes go on their knees and pray to GOD because if they do this, I don't think they will be so wicked to other fellow Ghanaians. look at the way they have used divide and rule tactics to rule the country only to their advantage and their families? they exploited the people to enrich themselves and their families and leaving the rest of Ghanaians in poverty. they grabbed government lands and bungalows without thinking of Ghanaians who stood in the couching sun to vote for them into government.
