I heard the books and research allowances being discussed by students who claimed the lecturers do not buy new books or conduct any research. Why can't the government give a grant to each university for lecturers to apply for research and books and other materials instead of paying the allowances to individual lectures, irrespective of whether they are buying books and conducting research or not?

They do not care a hoot about what is in the kitty to be shared but want to take everything for themselves. These ggroups are teachers, doctors and sometimes nurses. What kind of nonsense is this? I have always said that when you acquire wealth no matter how legitimate but illegally and by twisting the arm of somebody, you continue to be miserable even though you get all the money. Take a look at these lecturers, they are nothing to write home about, look at doctors, the are a pale shadow of themselves. I hear the doctors want to go on strike again. They will continue to wallow in poverty and misery it they continue dragging the country into senseless demands. I am at a lose that some Ghanaians are happy because of this, but whatever these groups are doing will go round and hauint us. It will affect building of imfracstructure for all of us. The last time he met these lecturers he promised so much BUT FAILED TO DELIVER. So why should they take him serious this time. He's playing with semantics and I think the lecturers are in the right to tell him to the face that they won't call off the strike. In other words the president has lost the respect they had for him for not honouring his word.

This issue clearly brings to the fore, what really are the exact priorities of the Mills-Mahama-Amissah Arthur administration. It is on record that, the P(NDC) gov't under then President Rawlings sat down unconcerned for the academic calendar of our universities to be thrown out of gear in the late 90's as a result of a strike action by UTAG. The university lecturers and professors sat at home for over 9 solid months and ever since, our educational calendar has never been the same. Fast forward to the 2000's and again, we have this same P(NDC) party, playing and toying with our educational system, when even the developed countries are sinking huge resources into their educational sector with a view to stay ahead in the globalized world where the intellectual property rights of their citizenry and it's development is at the forefront of their prioritization efforts.
It is on record again that, in the NDC party the issue of education is at best a cosmetic exercise, because we have heard Haruna Iddrisu on a number of occasions saying that, about 40% of the populace would need to be kept in the dark as far as education is concerned or words to that effect. Strikes were initiated in the NPP gov't, but the NPP gov't realizing the importance of education to the development aspirations of the country, had to bite the bullet and make things happen. That's the marksman of our party which is serious about governance and really putting their money where their mouth should be in the overall developmental agenda and effort. Ghana is clearly doomed and headed for the rocks under this NDC party and every second, minute, hour, day, month, year they continue to stay in power, Ghana would slide back, because the ineptitude, incompetence and mental capacity as well as the drive to achieve trail blazing success is just not there and that's a fact. The only thing they have demonstrated time and again to be perfect at accomplishing is you guessed right, the creation, looting and gargantuan sharing of the toil of very hard working Ghanaians.
