Madam, I perfectly concur with you. Our graduates are still looking for jobs. How do we absorb them into the job market if we continue to keep our older folks in the offices. It is good we give them post retirement contracts and allow the fresh graduates to understudy them. Please just leave the age at 60 and lets us allow the young ones to understudy us.

This is not a matter of increasing retiring age to 65 years but paying the workers a living wage could solve the problem when we retire. If MPs can enjoy billion just after 4 years in office what is wrong if civil servants also enjoy in proportion to that after over 40 years in the service. SNNIT also using our monies to transact so many business what percentage do they give to support our meager pension salary after our retirement. This is cheating and the earlier something is done about it the better. Thank you

In Ghana since there is limited job for the youth and vast number of un-em ployed graduates we have, we can maintain the current retirement age but cut down the its monthly pay.

To create jobs, the gov needs to broaden the economy rather than creating artificial jobs by moving experienced people out of the job market. This lady is trying to say pensioners can become self employed when they retire, but at that age most people will struggle to develop a business. Projects such as gyeeda will be a more effective method of creating jobs for the youth if run properly. People are living longer that is why a lot of countries are increasing their retirement age so why is this tunnel visioned woman refusing to accept change. An HR person should be good at change management but it seems to be the opposite on this occasion. She can propose early retire at 60 for those who feel like retiring early. If she still feel we need to retire at 60, she should have proposed ways the stress on pensions can be reduced.

What is the age bracket of those suggesting the new pension age? We live in a country where graduate unemployment is sky rocketing and yet we propose that seniors citizens should still stay at work? Are we serious as a nation?or are just happy seeing the lack of new ideas and growth in our formal sector?
Seriously, if you'd ask me...i don't think that proposal was well thought through. We should rather better manage the pension scheme so that our retirees wil have a comfortable rest after 60. We need the young and vibrant generation to drive the economy with the senior population guiding our thoughts. That is not to say we should flush all of them out to make way for the young...no.
We still need those with critical skills that the younger generation is yet to acquire to stay on and groom.

Our so called HR expert may as well propose a retirement age of 50 or 45 and presto we will have zero unemployment for youth and swell up the number of our pensioners. When more progressive nations are revising theirs upwards our HR expert (sic) solution to youth unemployment is lower retirement age. In the US we have a Social security retirement age of 65raised to 67 for those after 1960. It does not mean every one retires at 60 or 67/ It is just the eligibility to receive full SS benefit upon retirement at that age. Strictly speaking one can work at any age above 18 till his or her employer finds their services useful or till they drop dead. And yet our youth get employed and promoted as the economy warrants. It's the Economy Stupid! Not HR.

This is crap. Most of our professionals who retire are called back on contracts for another five years. This shows that we do not have the cadre to replace these retired people at that top level. We are talking here of highly skilled professionals like specialist doctors and judges whose numbers are already woefully inadequate and who are in good physical conditions, not unskilled and other low key people.

I don,t think we should copy blinding all that the western countries are doing. It is very wrong. It is loneliness that push them to want to work longer. They have noticed that after their pension they spend most of their time drinking alcohol, and die after some time. We don,t have the same problems in Africa. We have our families around us.So we don,t have have the same problems, and the weather in Africa does not allow that. In my point of view, working above 55 years is wrong in Africa. We should not copy all that is been done in Europe.
