I completely disagree with you,Atigah. As a matter of fact. I think the amount awarded would not be prohibitive enough to bring sanity into the way our so called Ghanaian Journalists print anything at all without performing the required due diligence. It's however a start and I pray those who are maligned unduly in our media would capitalize on this ruling and seek redress from the courts for these pervasive character assassinations by incompetent and lazy Journalists who fail to do their homework before jumping to press with outrageous falsehoods.IT'S ABOUT TIME.I WISH THE COURTS WOULD LEVY PROHIBITIVE COSTS TO DISCOURAGE TAINTING AND UNDERMINING THE INTEGRITY OF OUR MEDIA.
Oh, the MP can also show some magnanimity by donating some of the money to any Journalistic workshop to help train and emphasize the need for our young and coming Journalists to learn the importance of reporting accurately to the citizenry at large.

There is something rather wrong with you. Do you know what slander means and the effects it can have on the reputation of a person wrongly accused. That kind of nonsense has gone on for too long against many people since the criminal libel law was repealed. Journalists must be responsible for what they publish. The judge should have given a stiffer sentence to deter other people who think they can just publish any falsehood.
The next people to be targeted are those who hide behind computers and spread tribal hatred, insults and falsehood. Many of them use false names and think they can hide but they should be made to know that they can be tracked because they broadcast from an IP address that is assigned to only them.
