So when can you talk sense on this forum? If the government makes a promise to these teachers, it must be fulfilled. These teachers are no fools to be toyed around. Did UTAG not go on strike during Kuffour's admn? It is the responsibility of the government not to lie to workers but make promises that can be fulfilled.
Nobody wants lecturers to go on strike because it bodes nobody any good. Those who suffer are the students who still have to spend when lecturers are on strike. Tell Mahama to pay them so there can be peace. If judgement debts can be paid with such promptness, why not that of workers? Reason that out.

To be sincere, how can Okudzeto Abrakwa negotiate effectively with the UTAG executives. This show how the NDC government is putting a square peg in round holes... What is his knowledge level, ability and power to influence and much better convince the UTAG executives. What a useless and self defeating venture the Ndc is embarking. Please be advice, anyway where are the likes of Spio, JS Annan, Amedu, and all the former emeritus professors, who once supported and engaged with the Ndc. Oh, where are we really going and how do we get there with elements like Abrakwa leading the way...

My sentiments exactly. How does it sound having a recent graduate like Ablakwa, who didn't work a day in his life before entering politics but is now earning high pecks, trying to convince his former lecturers to accept lower pay? This is just a recipe for intransigence on the part of the UTAG executives. You can sit back and say that if the lecturers don't like their jobs, they can also go into politics. But that would simply be ignoring the psychological aspects of negotiations. The lecturers are more likely to listen to the Minister of Education herself, who was once a Vice Chancellor. Why send Ablakwa?

You are right. In dealing with these lecturers many of who have tons of knowledge, experience and diplomacy, Ablakwa is no match. He lacks diplomacy and the wisdom to deal with them. He also has the reputation of talking "smart" as Rawlings referred to some them who were close to Mills as having sharp teeth. The minister herself should have been there to talk to his former colleagues and tell them the truth. Ablakwa is like a square peg in a round hole.
