Npp thinks Ghanaians have soon forgotten when they were stealing gold, money, land and other state properties. Ministers saving government loans in their individual foreign accounts and keeping the interest accrued before releasing the capital to nation's coffers. In fact, the SC is really wasting time that is why these crooks think they still stand a chance. Where on earth have you seen SC removing democratically elected president and putting in a 70 years old drug baron, greedy and arrogant man as president? You have been found out and God will punish you for wasting Ghanaian tax-payers money. Npp would surely pay for their demonic and evil plans.

I agree that this is a fantastic speech even though I sense a lot which needed saying was left out. I should have seen the "Akan-Ewe" factor instead of the "Akan Factor", if the Northern-South dichotomy was worth mentioning. Maybe the good bishop Emeritus didn't deal with that angle.

And, of course, we all know who are responsible for the dishing out of the prejudices most, don't we? THE AKANS!A little public acknowledgement of that in his speech would have done Nana a lot of good to polish his own image.

In any case, the good bishop has beaten me to publishing on a subject I've been writing on in cyberspace for almost 2 decades now. Well, I lost a bit chunk of the manuscript on Ghana and re-writing that has just been near impossible under the strenuous space of living in London, not Norway, where I did most of the draft in the late '90s. Anyway, I've managed to put together a a concise version for cyberspace consumption, 42 pages in all, and is awaiting delivery at an opportune time.

The bishop's book is one I'd love very much to read. Unfortunately, Nana did not provide the name of the publishers and where the book could be acquired, an essential part of launching a book. That's a minus in his speech too. But no big problem. We shall get hold of the book and read it, we who are wise and seek knowledge and the betterment of Ghana.

Finally, a shame on all those younger so-called Ghanaian academics (I won't dignify them by referring to them as intellectuals) who have failed to take up this subject all these years!

Not even the entire Kumase army, but a relatively small contingent, which King Osei Tutu took along, because he undersestimated the Akyems.

Why don`t you tell us, something about the numerous defeats the Asona clan (ruling clan of Akyem-Abuakwa) suffered at the hands of Asantes? They were driven away from Adanse, which made them settle in Ejisu/Offinso, while the Akyem-Abuakwas migrated to their present area. Yes, the people of Ejisu, Offinso, Akyem-Abuakwa etc. are one people. Likewise the Akyem-Kotoku and Akyem-Bosome migrated from Adanse. Don`t you know, that even the Asiakwahene, who is the Nifahene of Akyem-Abuakwa state is not an Asona, but an Oyoko royal and the ancestral brother of the Asantehene? Why don`t you mention the fact, that King Katakyie Opoku Ware I. defeated the Akyems? Don`t you know by the end of his reign Asante controlled the entire present day area of modern Ghana (with the exception of some of the Fante area) and even stretching far into Ivory Coast and Togo.

There can be no such thing as a "pure" Asante. Asante is not a tribe, but a unitary Akan state. Being an Asante means, you owe allegiance to the Golden Stool of Asante. In fact, a very large part of Asante originates from other Akan states such as Denkyira, Akwamu etc. You can only speak of pure Adako/Oyoko royals, which is the ruling clan in Asante. King Osei Tutu was a true Oyoko royal of Kokofu and Kwaaman (present day Kumase).

Osei Tutu his body was taken away by the Pra river. As for the ancient Kwaaman (Kumasi) stool, Golden umbrella of Osei Tutu, Golden Sword of Osei Tutu these items are in Ivory Coast with the Asante-Adako (Baoule) people, whose ancestress took them along during the Adako/Oyoko civil war. They are also in the posession of the Golden stool of Denkyira.

Your account is very correct except where you stated that the Asantes were in control of the whole of present Ghana except some parts of the Fante areas. You should have excluded the Anlo sphere of control in southern VR too.

After the defeat of the Akyems in 1764, the Asantes failed to cross the Volta from Ada. Why? is a matter of historical puzzle up to today which even Wilks couldn't unravel in his epic book "The Asantes". But why they couldn't cross to pursue the fleeing Akyems who settled at Kpessi to this day in Togo but broke camp and returned home is known to many informed Anlos. Anyway, through Akwamu, Anlo was already a friendly nation to Asante and any attempt to conquer Anlo would have been deemed an unfriendly action against an ally - the small insect that is capable of killing the elephant - something which the Asantes found out to their great cost. Anlos have kept their side of the deal even at great cost to fellow Ewes just as the Asantes their side, with both their respective mottos and emblems to mark the occasion and peace has prevailed b/n the two nations to this day.

I know this is all parable, even rigmarole, to you but I think the time has come to examine what actually happened by opening the traditionally "classified files" on the subject.

And you should have excluded partly Akwamu and Ga too, which the Asantes also did not defeat in any war but became kind of big brother to them, to the mutual benefits of all parties. By allowing the Asantes to collect the ground rents for the Accra castles when they presented the Notes their seized from the Akyems, the Gas took a smart and rightful decision which secured them a powerful ally which eventually led to Accra overshadowing Cape Coast. Trade goods in slaves, ivory, gold dust, etc., started flowing into Accra like manna from heaven from Asante and beyond! This in no way implied that the Asantes controlled the Gas even though the Gas at one stage looked up to the Asantehene as a neutral arbiter of disputes among them. What are allies for then?

And,the control of Weme or Krepi in middle and northern VR to Togo was exercised indirectly through Akwamu which really had control of that area thanks to enforcement by Peki and associates. Once Peki (Kwadwo Dei I) revolted against Akwamu in 1833, that control was lost.

We the Nsutas soon returned to our former place and defeated the Ewes controlling many Ewe townships such as Awusuta,Akonya etc. I dont have to mention that the Kete Krakye (Kete Krachie) area was under the control of Nsuta/Juaben. Don`t you know, that for instance, the Juabens/Dwaben, who are the head of the ruling clan in Asante (Oyoko) refused to fight Akyems due to the friendship between the two? As for the Akwamus, they are our brothers, most Asantes of the Aduana-Aberade clan originate from Akwamu such as Agogo,Kumawu, Kwaman and many others as well as most of the Ahafo-Asantes. Likewise some people of Bantama, Barekese and Asafo as well as Adum and other areas within Kumasi. It were the Akwamus, who sheltered Osei Tutu and taught him among others things the "three fold approach" military organization (i.e. Nifa, Benkum, Adonten) then unknown to the rest of the people. They assisted Osei Tutu in defeating the Denkyeras. Where do you think the Akwamu division in Asante, which was then copied by other Akan states originates from? That is why Akwamu was never annexed by the Asantes.

Initially the entire Accra area and most parts of Eastern region were under Akwamu. It were the Akwamus who taught the Ga Akan culture including Kingship/Queenship, which was until then unknown to them.

Asantehene Opoku Ware I. defeated the Ga-Adangbe between 1741 and 1744. Yes, they went into agreement with Asantes later on, but this does not take away the fact, that they were defeated. Why do you think, they refused to attack Kumasi when encouraged by the Europeans to do so?

Large parts of Ivory Coast and Togo has been controlled by the Asante-Adako (Baoules) of the Kumasi-Nsuta ruling house. They broke away from Asante during the Adako-Oyoko civil war. Do you think Opoku Ware wanted to fight his uncles (the Adakos) again?

The architect says he understands the sentimental value of the tree and he will design the house so that the tree isn't harmed.

'Yen akanfo party'. Meaning, the party that belongs only to the akans. What does this mean? Stereotyping, prejudicing or following the stupid old custom, where the Akyems and Asantis were stupidly believed to be better than any other tribe in Ghana? Secondly, Bishop Kwasi Sarpong is the wrong person to author such a book due to his position as a Christian bishop. He is bound to be biased against customs and traditions which some of us hold dear to our hearts. Admittedly, I have not read the book but I doubt if it will be of any benefit to me as a die hard Akan man who has great respect for tradition. I very much doubt if the book has anything new in terms of culture, tradition, stereotypes that we don't already know as Ghanaians. I hope I'm wrong.

Born in March like myself , I have never doubted the competance of Nana Akufo Addo and in the course of commentaries on political matters I have never attacked this personality. My problem has been with the party he belongs to. This party has been full of opportunists who have deprived this country of millions of wealth which belong to the ordinary citizens.
Akufo Addo may be sufficient to lead this country but he will do with the group belonging to the NPP. This is aabother party with several competiting interest, majority of which are parochial. Their life style is characterised by corruption, extravagance, nepotism, tribalism and vindictiveness. These character traits are not good for the development of this country.For thie reason, I will continue to oppose any attempt to give the leadership of this country to them.

In 2009 Nana Akuffo Addo told the whole world that only Akans excluding Nfantis and Brong- Ahafos have the right to rule this country. He stated that in this infamous We Akans. He supported a members of his party Kennedy Agyapong who called on Akans to kill Ewhes and Ghans in 20012. He and members of his party are in court because he feel that a person from any other tribe apart from Ashanti-Akyem has no right to be president of Ghana.
