In analyzing current public expenditure which stands at 38billion dollars, Osafo Marfo forgot to factor in the growth rate thereafter and the expected rise in growth after such injections. This makes his argument for the increased debt flawed.
Then one other thing Osafo Marfo forgot to factor in again was the increased population from Kronfuors Administration, the influx including the Chinese and the Nigerians etc.
Unemployment has always been a problem where all shoeshine-boys and girls have populated the cities instead of engaging in cassava cultivation or going to join 31st December womens movement to improve the lives of the village dwellers.
Those in Sodom and Gomorrah should be given Government farms or ship all of them to the villages and farms to have something positive doing.

When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

Npp will soon die and a new party formed in its place. What npp are looking for is to come to power to loot the nation's resources. Npp thinks Ghanaians have soon forgotten when they were stealing gold, money, land and other state properties. Ministers saving government loans in their individual foreign accounts and keeping the interest accrued before releasing the capital to nation's coffers. In fact, the SC is really wasting time that is why these crooks think they still stand a chance. Where on earth have you seen SC removing democratically elected president and putting in a 70 years old drug baron, greedy and arrogant man as president? NPP people need their heads examined, because they are never satisfied. The economy is in tiptop shape. Everybody that wants to work is working. There are no more illegal mining anywhere in the country, so where is their beef. Mr. Terkper may look like a cadaver, or at least half a cadaver, but that is no reason to say everything is bad. If you say Terkper (not the economy) is looking bad, I can understand.

Can you imagine Ghanaians abusing Nigeria, the giant of Africa, the sunshine, the mountain, and the golf of oil of Africa? Ghana, let us teach you some English, for there's going to be some diplomatic brouhaha o, if President Atta Mills doesn't call the Foka Sibe Boys to order
Which country in the world calls their friends "Charlie" and names all their men after weekdays and weekends, Kwado (Monday) Kwabena (Tuesday) Kwaku (Wednesday) Yau (Thursday) Kofi (Friday), Kwame (Saturday), Kwesi (Sunday)? Una too much o
And you are so laid back, you don't even know, look at every bank around you, it is UBA, ECO-Bank and Zenith bank. Your mobile phones are routed through Lagos, MTN, Vodafone, Tigo and whatever! Charlie, Thank God we are not Ghanaians o
See your president worships in Lagos, pays tithes to Synagogue, even your under-something football team relies on Pastor T.B Joshua to win the world cup because there is no God in Ghana. Charlie, thank God I'm not a Ghanaian o
When was the last time Ghana had a national team after Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah started hawking spicy Rob and puff-puff. Charlie, thank God we are not Ghanaians o
Instead of getting down on Amala, Pounded yams and orisirishi, you eat burnt rice three times a day and call it a funky name "Wache" as if we won't understand...Thank God we are not Ghanaians
Since Fela left Ghana you only knew how to sing old highlife and wedding songs, who marries with a Ghanaian music anymore anyways... Thank God we are not Ghanaians
Remember Nigerians created Nollywood, but Ghanaians are stuck trying to create something, should we call it "Nannawood?" with the same characters- kofi, nana, kwabena and Elizabeth...you can't even get near any wood, Charlie, thank God I'm not a Ghanaian o
And why did Obama come here and didn't spend a second night, was it because Accra was too boring??? Thank God we are not Ghanaians.
Please if you can't afford three-piece Nigerian agbada stop wearing the black and white stripe school uniform and call it a national attire, afterall you have discovered oil, please dress better, OK. Charlie, thank God we are not Ghanaians.
Our traditional rulers are cruising around in Bentley, Mercedes Benz, and BMW but yours are still hanging on wooden limos, Charlie, thank God we are not Ghanaians
We know you love to do 419 but tell me who will send you money when you send a dead chicken by FedEx in the name of Sakawa... Thank God we're not Ghanaians o
Brothers, make una show some respect to the big brother next door, otherwise we will ask Lagosians to move over to Accra and overrun the place...
And as Fela taught, Fefe n'efe ntina obaa tu amirika a, ense na nofona yese, ebete ato ntia, ebete ato ntio, ebeti aton ti, abeti atontia, ebeti atonti, ebeti atonti e, ebeti atonti

SETH TEKPER SHOULD REALISE HE'S EXPOSING HIS INCOMPETENCE FOR SUCH ASSERTIONS.
THE REVENUES FROM GHANA'S DERISORY 10% SHARES IN OUR OWN CRUDE OIL EXPORTS CANNOT BE THE BAROMETER FOR DETERMINING A ROBUST GHANA ECONOMY.
GHANA'S LEADERSHIP CORRUPTION AND BAD DEALS WITH FOREIGN INVESTORS HAVE BEEN OUR STOCK IN TRADE OVER THE YEARS UNDER NPP, NDC, PP AND OTHERS.
THE CONSEQUENCIES ARE WHAT WE'RE PAYING BACK "BIG TIME" TO THIS DAY.
EVEN THE LATE PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ, A SOLDIER, OF VENEZUELA SAW THE LIGHT EARLY AND NATIONALISED ALL THE OIL COMPANIES IN HIS COUNTRY, AND REPATRIATED ALL OF VENEZUELA'S GOLD RESERVES INTO HIS DEAR COUNTRY TO SHORE UP HIS COUNTRY'S CURRENCY.
GHANA LEADERS ARE TO THIS DAY, KOWTOWING TO FOREIGN BUSINESSES JUST FOR THEIR SHARE OF THE LOOT.
THE PLANE-LOAD OF GHANA'S GOLD BULLIONS INTERCEPTED IN TURKEY HAS TO THIS DAY REMAINED A MYSTERY.
GHANA IS RICHLY ENDOWED WITH UNTHINKABLE NATURAL RESOURCES WHICH SHOULD MAKE OUR NATION RUB SHOULDERS WITH THE WEST, BUT BAD DEALS AND OFFICIAL CORRUPTION ARE PUNISHING ALL GHANAIANS AND OUR ECONOMY.
GHANA NEEDS A VERY BLOODY REVOLUTION TO RIGHT ALL THESE LEADERSHIP WRONGS.

It is this political falsehood which makes it difficult for the rest of us ordinary citizens to really appreciate the issues. Hear Osafo Marfo under whose watch Ghana went HIPC and whose government had to sell Ghana Telecom to pay salaries in one month. The problem is that Mahama's government has no state assets left to sell to balance the budget as his predecessors did. Hear Seth Tekper et al also saying the economy is robust. What is their definition of robust? Fact is the fundamentals of the Ghanaian economy have been weak for a long time. Every government has only been window deressing for political expedience and deceiving the populace. The economy hinges on cocoa, gold, private remittances and petroleum which is net negative. We spend more foreign money to import petroleum products than we earn in crude oil export. We spend more foreign money to import goods including junks than we earn from cocoa and gold put together. Next to no productivity is going on in the country. We have become a country of consumers without production. We spend too much money buying Toyota landcruisers for the political elite and senior civil servants. Imagine one landcruiser costs well over $100,000. Buy 100 of them and it is more than $10 million and we buy several of them. It is time the two major political parties stop the politicking and seek help for the economy. The blame game will not take us anywhere. We the discerning citizens can see whether or not there is a problem. We don't need them to tell us their warped opinions.

Terkper is a big liar! The NDC would call him a "serial liar" if his statement were to have come from a member of any opposition party.
The finance minister has soon forgotten his own statement when it was time to pay up on govt's promise esp. when Doctors, Nurses and Teachers demanded their fair share.
With all the hardship that's being felt by Ghanaians and foreigners, the minister in charge of managing the nations's finances would rather decide to tell lies to the citizens and the world. Who does he think he's deceiving? Things continue to fall apart; the center cannot hold for Ghanaian family and businesses. There's increase in tax levels which is killing businesses. What Mr. Terkper & Co., refuses to admit is that when you raise tariffs/taxes, it's the ordirary citizen who suffers. Because everything is passed on to the consumers, who're the citizens. It's as simple as that. Does Terkper know or understand that?
The NPP govt under Mr. J. A. Kuffour showed the way. Terkper shouldn't forget that. So if ex-Prez. Kuffour govt could make things work, as it's being explained by ex-Finance Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo, then the current minister should heed to this humble advice, in order to turn the horrible economic situation around. People are suffering; a lot of cries and wailling can be heard from the distance. I know some friends who've left Ghana back to the UK, US, Canada Germany and Frace because, as they put it, things just aren't going well. Their business have stalled, as a result of high tariffs/taxes imposed on everything.
This wasn't the case during Kuffour's govt. Infact Kuffour's govt was able to turn the economic situation around, to the admiration of Ghanaians, neighbouring African and foreign countries, notable among then were the UK, US, France, Japan ect. This is no secret. Folks would recall that Her Royal Majesty; The Queen of England invited Prez. J. A. Kuffour to a Red-Carpet reception at the Buckingham Palace. This wasn't a joke! It was in appreciation and acknowledgement of Kuffour's achievements. This is what Mr. Osafo Marfo wants to point out.
The NDC, since ages have proven that they cannot do anything good for Ghana. They simply don't have ideas. They're just a bunch of noise-makers, who'd go around accusing people of corruption. Things continue to get out of hand. Yet Terkper says: "Ghana's economy is robust" just to deceive Ghanaians.
We're all waiting for the Supreme Court's verdict. The John Mahama and NDC have stolen the ballot, with the aid of EC's boss Kwadjo Afari Gyan. Nana Akufo-Addo who won the election has been cheated! His vision to lead Ghana unto paths of great progress and prosperity has been subdued as a result of election fraud.
We hope and pray that the Supreme Court would have the wisdom and the courage to rescue Ghanaians from suffering and hardship soon. Terkper & Co., seem dazed; they don't know what's going on.
May God bless our Homeland Ghana. Amen!

Tekper is talking about the fact that NPP did the same thing during the global food crisis and so it is equally good for the NDC gov't to do the same thing in 2013. Where is the crisis in the midst of oil revenue, record gold prices, improved revenue income, record cocoa prices etc, etc. The fact still remains that the gov't is incapable of dealing with the issues because of their incompetence, their corruption, mismanagement and plain thievery.
The consensus is that the economic and financial quagmire which is just but one of the numerous symptoms of the gov't's ineptitude is being rightly condemned by all the stakeholders and calling for a radical shift in direction, but the inept, incompetent, corrupt and obstinate gov't has conveniently termed it as challenges and speeding the country into the abyss, with the likes of Fiifi Kwetey and co in the financial sector of the country.

Stop this only six months crap, such excuses makes me mad. President Mahama is a special case, he was virtually in charge of Ghana and was an acting president for over two and half years as the late presidents health prevented him from doing a full days work. Then he was fully in charge for 4 months before the general elections. He was also the head of the economic management team. Any competent person would have been fully in control of the affairs of this country by now. If he appoints competenet people to assist him, he will succeed but so long as he decides to reward party people who have no clue, then he should be held responsible for the abysmal performance of this government. Ghana is for all of us that is why we should not sit quietly for the rot to go on. At the end of the day, we all suffer. NPP will get their dose of bashing when they come to power so they better take note.

Ghana Has Failed – Amoabeng
General News of Saturday, 25 August 2012
Source: Daily Guide
Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UT Bank, says Ghana has failed in spite of the recognition of the country as an emerging economy.
He said “truly from what I have seen in the last 50 years I can truly say that Ghana is a failing state. Businesses are not being helped to flourish because of the lack of structure and infrastructural developments.”
He explained that Ghana’s economy has not been in the best shape in the past 50 years and businesses, which are the backbone of any successful economy, continue to be killed by those who have been at the helm over the years.
Mr. Amoabeng disclosed this while speaking on the topic “challenges facing private sector businesses in Ghana” at a forum held to celebrate the 1st anniversary of The Finder, a private newspaper set up by the former Managing Director of Graphic Communication Limited.
He noted that Ghana has not been able to realize its development potential because there is too much corruption and indiscipline in every sector, particularly the public service.
“Because of the structural breakdown, Ghanaians do not feel accountable to anyone and corruption has taken over every aspect of our economy,” he reiterated.
He said in spite of Ghana’s touted democratic credentials, the type of structures and systems that would make Ghana an economic success had not been delivered.
The UT Bank boss called for practical steps to be taken in order to create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Mohammed Awal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marble Communications Group, publishes of The Finder, The Weekend Finder and Finder Sports, said the anniversary topic: “Strengthening State Institutions for Private Sector Development” was chosen to highlight the need for the state to play an active role in developing the private sector.
“The state must collaborate with the private sector to encourage development, he said, adding that The Finder was developed to complement journalism in national development and they were committed to producing credible, balance and development-oriented stories.
He announced that the company will next year come out with its business paper and an electronic media house.
Peter Jones, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, said Africa’s private sector had generated an estimated 70 percent of the continent’s output, approximately two-thirds of its investment and 90 percent of employment on the continent.
He added that based on these statistics offered by the African Union (AU), the creation and development of private sector job, is seen as one of the most effective and sustainable strategies for alleviating poverty in Africa.
He said Africa could reduce dependence on foreign aid if the private sector becomes dynamic.
Mr. Jones noted that challenges facing Ghana’s private sector such as high cost of utility, lack of access to information on external markets and inadequate physical infrastructure could be tackled if the sector is given the needed attention.

Seth, please stop your nonsense. The term 'ROBUST' used to describe Ghana's ailing economy don't make sense to my 11-year old grandson who is holidaying in Ghana now. He called me a little while ago and complained about a Cabbie charging them (3-occupants) GHC 60.00(approximately $30.00) from Taifa Taxi station to SCC Junction on Accra - Winneba road which is less than 20 miles under 30-minutes drive.
The economy is absolutely stupid and needs real attention than your rhetoric window dressing which in the long run won't be beneficial to the ordinary people. You are making a good money looking after your family very well so thinking about the ordinary person is not your ultimate goal. Your former boss Mr. Duffour and his entire team which you were part of it have derailed the economy. Period. I think it will be better for you to quit than to disgrace yourself in the long run. do you Minister of finance described Ghana economy today as robust?
then i think you better resign because you dont posesed the Requisit idears to bring the falling economy on trcks.
Ghana!s economy is getting worst admit this Facts and go on round table discussions to find Solutions to the Problems.
let me advise you in this way
1 just consider yourself as an unemployed ctitizen or middle income earner or Trader at Asarfo market.
who had three children, 1.university, 2 SHS , &3 at Primary or private international School.
may be for the comfort of your life just want to add one car to the 3 children.
4.
just take any of the middle eaner income and Budget for the month and the year-
try to be honest and tel us if you can meet the 3times daily meal to your Family .
if out of over 25million People -those who had Jobs cann!t meet their Basic Needs in life how about the majority who dont have Jobs?
and you describe such a weak and unballanced economy as robust?
PLEASE STOP THIS COSMETIC ANALYSIS OF CUT & PAST ECOMONY AND FACE THE REALITY at the ground.
There is no way one can build a robust economy on a weak foundation-
the fact of the matter is GHANA ECONOMICAL FOUNDATIONS ARE VERY WEAK
The whole payment of salarie structure from the president to the labourer are not good structured to build a robust economy-
there are no proper statistical records to manage the pricese of commodities at the given period of the season -where pricese will shoot up Little bit government supose to cursion her People and bail some companies up , where the government supose to tight her tax Network or reduce it to stable the economy-
Typical eg
in the last quater of the year of my lord-there supose to be a lot of travelling, here government must decrease highly taxed commodities as a shock Absorber to the already bleeding workers and non-workers.
2.
the Petrol economy must stop with immediate effect- no developed Country was abled to suceed in Petrol economy hence they stoped.
The biggest enemy of Ghanas economy is the Price of fuel.
