Why would we in our wildest dreams try to drive tourists away with GHS10 tax for the use of trollies? This will not work please!!!! .... and it is a very bad idea.

I am trying to control my migraine before I start to unload, but truth is I can never fully express the level of my discontent at Ghanaian leadership, from top to bottom. It has to be the food(diet), water and perhaps genetics. We are born stupid, nourished stupidity, and practice survival of stupidity.

I already pay more than 10 measly Ghanaian filthy cedis just to get my luggage out into my vehicle, because the sky hop, gets tipped, even if you clean with clearance agents, they still beg for money. Soon after you cleared, some self appointed customs guys try to intercept you within seconds for another interrogation, hoping to extort some money still. Then the luggage tag identification crew still wants to extort money from you. Every freak of nature in Ghana wants you to "dash them something", as though you had to rob a bank just to come feed the entire nation. We are sick, totally sick people, and it is our genes.

This man wants 10 cedis charged for using the carts, so he can have it privatized, buy shares in that business and start making money.

Check this out. At the Ghana Immigrations Service, when you go out there to request extensions or other services, you are always prompted to kiosk services setup outside their offices. Even if you write your own letter expression your exact reasons, the lady at the counter will rubbish it and as you to go see this kid outside to draft a letter for you at 2 cedis. I asked the kid who amongst the officers owns these passport and typing pools, and he chuckles away.

My friends that is how irresponsible all our leaders our, and they must be punished, because over half the population is equally culpable and the sooner we start sifting through our human rubble the better.

We are products of our primitive, bush, filthy ancestors, and nothing we do can change us.

Even at heathrow you have the choice of using a free trolley or get a porter to carry your bags at a fee.
As usual , a lazy way of raising revenue. Providing trolleys is part of the services any responsible service provider offers to its customers. A very bad idea, shooting from the hip as usual without thinking through its impact on activities at the airport.

Do you know masons who build houses in ghana? These labourers do not pay any tax since the independence of ghana. Steal benders, carpenters, people and vehicles that supply water to these projects do not pay taxes. How many barbers in ghana are registered and pay tax? What about those who ship things from abroad and sell in ghana. Yes they pay tax for bringing the goods what about when they sell them each day.

Mr Ato you see trolley tax should be the last thing for I bet you somebody will chop the money. Look at road tax we collect in ghana yet the roads are as bad as any thing. Even we cannot repair the motto way aba. Please don't let us copy blindly for tax sake for those countries you mentioned have adequate systems to support it and they are discipline too.

Even if the wrong data given here and the information supplied proved to be correct, where will the collected Gh.c10 tax end up today? This suggested tax will undeniably end up in some lazy, wicked politician's pocket at the end of the day denying the public the source of income needed for local development. Yes, some form of Airport dues and Taxes are needed to help develop and expand the ailing infrastructure at KIA, Accra but surely don't consider the use of airport trolleys as one Mr Ato Gaisie.

Meanwhile,civil servants and public workers are already paying their due share of taxes to Government at source from their meagre monthly emmoluments.Mr Ato Gaisie should therefore should do much more exploits to properly discorver areas where they have escapped taxes or very little since Ghana was born.

AIRPORTS in Spain will start charging a euro for passengers to use luggage trolleys, according to the Spanish Airport Authority, AENA.

The first airport to charge will be Madrid’s Barajas airport followed by Tenerife South, Alicante, Barcelona’s El Prat airport, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga and Gran Canaria – all the major flight destinations for Spain’s most popular holiday resort towns.

The State-run airline governing body, AENA, says this is part of a plan to claw back €3.2 million and clear huge debts.

AENA has defended the decision by saying Madrid’s airport’s luggage trolleys currently cost €3.7 million a year to maintain, but this will be reduced to €500,000 if they charge €1 per use – a saving of 3.2 million.

Other European airports have already implemented similar charges, including Germany’s Hahn, Munich, Cologne and Düsseldorf; Italy’s Milan, Genoa, Torino and Rome-Fiumicino, and Athens.

Airports in the UK, including Manchester, Bristol, Luton, Birmingham, Leeds and Cardiff all charge up to two pounds per time.

An exact timescale for the charges to be implemented has not yet been announced.

In the United States, these trolleys as you call them are run by private people and they are locked up in machines in most airports. Passengers will have to pay (slot) the carts for use. On the other hand some of them can be found idle when passengers empty/vacate them. You see your recommendation is a good one but who the hell do you want to be entrusted to collect the GHC10.00? I want you to research your recommendations very well and you will find that the person/s who run the trolleys (carts) have employed people to round them up, put them back in the machine to identify how often they're removed. Oh less I forget, they pay taxes on them too to develop the airport to make it as clean as you see it every time you travel. I am sorry but I will like to ask you and your group "how much taxes do you pay every year towards the upkeep of the nation? In the countries you have cited such petty businesses have been leased out to individual people through government bidding and the winner takes all. Are you recommending that as well or it is going to another government establishment that feeds the foot soldiers of the government like the latrine business (ban-bini-gyima)? May I give you a piece of advise Mr. Gaisie; not only are you misinformed but no one should even waste time listening to you because you seem to be one of the people who happen to come abroad once in a while and think oh I have an idea for the government. I was in Ghana in January, and I tried to go and use a washroom in the main check in area. First of all there was only one washroom for men, and I couldn't believe what I saw when I opened the door. I couldn't even step into the washroom to use it. I had to go to the domestic check in area to use the washroom there. What a disgrace. If I as a Ghanaian citizen feels this way, how much more wll a foreigner see us?
To this asshole asking for stupid charges, he must know that he can't pick mushrooms in his living room. How much income taxes does he pay anyway? If Ghanaians pay their taxes as they are obliged to do, the Government will get all the money it needs to provide for the citizens.
