Improving our lot and that of others including the poor and vulnerable is certainly a laudable venture. But equally important is the bare dignity of the human person. You can't divorce sterling human traits as honesty and hard work for instance from human endeavor. Get the wrong mixture and you get a rotten and polluted society!
Imagine a hugely popular and important social figure hooked onto illicit drugs and or calling others to do same overtly or covertly. I wonder whether you would praise such a person let alone emulate them.
