On this Dr Nkrumah, you are talking sense. But it is not only our leaders who are to blame but ourselves. The Custom & Immigration staff at our ports of entry always give better services to this British and indeed the whites than the indigenous Ghanaian citizens. They do this for 'noko fio' to allow no proper checks on them. Instead they have the impunity to subject Ghanaians with Ghana Passport to inhuman and disrespectful questioning and search. Our Passport and Foreign offices and our political and business leaders also turn to somehow, worship the white man and favour them. Britain must be treated in the same vein as she treats our people entering her land. Wake up our people is the call but not wake up our leaders!!!.

We have got ourselves to blame. Ghana is by any stretch not a poor country. What this great nation has been lacking is a leader with a mission and a vision. After the demise of Kwame Nkrumah the vacuum left has not been occupied. The soil under feet and above is rich but goes to enrich or the create wealth for the very people who look at us with total disdain or if you will ultimate disrespect. It is high time we muster courage and stand up. We must build our country. In fact Ghana is a paradise but foreign exploitation and self- inflicted cycle of corruption have deprived our people of the basics in life.

In hindsight Kwame Nkrumah has been vindicated many fold. Now do Ghanaians/Africans understand why Ghana broke diplomatic relationship with Britain in 1965? The ball is in our court, we play hard game with our so called friends and foes alike. Never ever think the Whiteman is going to develop your country for you. The Whiteman or so called investors have only one thing in mind, their own interest. That is how to maximize their interest with little/minimum investment. There are two words they use: aid or investment. Whichever way you look at it: the same exploitation.

It is time now for Africa to arise and start south –south trade so that the money remains on our continent. Whenever we take our hard earned foreign exchange and go to them and buy unnecessary luxury goods, they get richer and richer and we get poorer and poorer. It is simple arithmetic. The recent BBC documentary STEALING AFRICA is a testament as to how far the so called can go to make profit out of misery. They don’t care about us until we start caring about ourselves.

Kofi, you are so right. In 2005 I came back home and was at a Gas/Petrol Station in Kumasi trying to buy some goods when a white man walked in and went and grab some items. The Ghanaian lady seeing the white guy says "hello white man, come on and let me help you" and the man walked passed me, jumping the line in the process with no respect for us, in order to pay for his items. I went off at the lady and the white man and said in his (white man) own country, he'll dare not jump and line/queue but the Ghanaian lady, like most people in Africa, worshipped him and put him on a pedestal above her own people. The white man apologized to me and said i could go before him and I told him I was waiting for my turn. There are so many other cases where our people treat white people different than us, in our country, unbelievable but it happens in Ghana all the time. A stupid lady, called Sala Karim, had her husband killed because she was trying to meet a white man from America and possibly marry him. What make her think this white guy is rich? If he's really rich, the women here will snatched her up before he gets the chance to come to Ghana. I think what we need to do is make a documentary of the white people struggling in their own country and also those that stand by the road and beg to let Ghanaians and other Africans see what actually goes on in western world beside the Hollywood clad movies they see, a psychology propaganda to show the supposed superiority of their people, hmmm

Truth is the scam of these 3rd world countries flock to civilized Europe, and don't even learn good things. Look how ignorant all our leaders act. Most live lavishly even more than some accomplished British citizens living in their own UK. We subject our disadvantaged citizens to plights worse than the colonialists slapped on us. Seriously, I will prefer the Return of Colonial Rule to these monkeys in charge, and I don't mean Mahama and his admin, but just about every Ghanaian leader since Kwame Nkrumah.

This ignorant man Sekou, will travel to the UK or wherever he wishes to, without hindrance, so he is going to pretend that he is a voice for the people. The fee for the bond isn't a surety to enter the UK, but granted you are given a visa to visit or school, you are obligated to return as stipulated. If statistics reveals that 75% of Ghanaians who apply for visas to visit the UK and return within a specific period of time do not comply, why the heck shouldn't we all suffer. Same way these bush folks with a little money hop and planes to US, Canada and Europe carrying all sorts of shit, worse than some tro-tro passenger, and expect these aircraft attendants to have any respect for the average Ghanaian. I traveled from Schipol to Accra recently, and some stupid ugly Twi-speaking Ghanaian man, stood about half way through the trip just yapping and yapping to some other fella in the aisle. Man I hate my people, and especially those unpolished type who like to look fancy, and show off on aircrafts. Just sit your ass down till we land.
I have watched how irritated white people get around us, but those fuckers will squeeze their asses and pretend all is well. Me, I huff and puff an curse under my breathe, cos you can't call me a racist, if I tell you to shut your monkey ass up on a plane!!!

Switzerland recently did the same thing except they did not require a fee, just visa denial and limitation, what's with you people and your colonial masters? Just because they let you go free, you think they are weak.

I wish such constraints will be placed on citizens who migrate to Accra, or tell their grandmothers and uncles, they just coming to makola to shop, and never return! Freaks!

Benefit - an incentive for visitors to go back to their country: The Brits don't overstay their visits to Ghana so I do not see any benefit to Ghana.
Will visitors from Ghana to the UK return to Ghana? Well, those who have the money will return (they are doing well in Ghana), those who will borrow are not likely to return (hustlers), and those who don't have and can't borrow will not travel at all.

In my opinion, the Brits will gain (reduced number of visitors who overstay their visas) but Ghana will have zero benefit. Should Ghana reciprocate irrespective of the cost without any benefit? I can't answer that.

Seiku urged the government to give Britain a taste of their own medicine by ensuring their citizens pay triple of the £3,000 if they want to come to Ghana. Who are they? it is Ghanaians who have naturalized as British nationals.

On the other hand Seiku further says that the proposal by the UK government is "unacceptable" and must be condemned in no uncertain terms. This guy has never made sense, the two statements do cannot be reconciled.

More so, if Ghana were to reciprocate, who will suffer the most? Ghanaians who have naturalized to become Britons. These are the very people who have built homes all over the Ghana and still have their roots in Ghana. Slap fees on them and what will Ghana achieve?

The British are trying to prevent illegal migration into their country. Can Ghana assert that in reciprocating the British proposal, the objective of the policy will be to stop the British from illegal overstaying of their visa to Ghana? absolutely not!

Ghana demands 3000USD for a resident permit from a European and 150usd just for a Visa! What do we Europeans get for that money? nice roads? Good health care system? good service? safe envoriment? NO... Instead we get black mailed by all the government bodys from the IRS to the AMA. But just go ahead and put a 9000pound bail.. at the end the UK citizen will go somewhere else and only Ghana will lose.

Furthermore, you say that all our wealth comes from Africa. Wrong again... We do get some raw materials from Africa but most European countries create its wealth from Industry and export. Something Africa still didnt learn. You had 60 years, how much longer do you need? South Korea did it, Singapore did it... The governments of Africa is to Blame, not the Europeans.

Ghana for example, was made up small tribal units like Asanteman, Okyeman, Denkyiraman, Gas, etc. It was the British that brought together all those tribal states into one larger state, the Gold Coast. So Africa was not a united continent when the Europeans arrived. I think that over 50 years of self rule, we probably need to build our country and live in it.

I think Ghanaian government should recall the Ghanaian embassy in UK and ask UK embassy to leave Ghana since they have proven beyond reasonable doubt by this singular act of racism that they obviously don't want us in their country. After all what is in UK now that worth dying for. Absolutely nothing, yet their embassy in Ghana extort so much from Ghanians all in the name of visa. We should start looking at other trade partners and ignore conservative countries. We should also start reserving our Gold, Diamond, Oil and natural resources and have a high level of control on our own economy.Ghanians and all who are against racism should rise up and fight against this modern form rascism!!!

They won't care a hoot about similar findings with the white man crossing the port! Very disgusting, to say the least what these Immigration and Custom officials do on daily basis at the Airport! Shame on them!!! As if their lives depend on the little monies they shamefully extort from Ghanaians who either arrive from abroad or are leaving they have no shame and would gleefully pounce on the least and insignificant lapse you as a traveler may have at the port.

Now, perhaps, we should not too much cry foul if the British intend to do same on official note! Charity they say begins at home.
