May I add that Ertharin Cousin (executive director of the UN World Food Programme in Rome) says well that "tackling post-harvest loss is not rocket science. It does not require technological breakthroughs or years of high level scientific research as do some of the other challenges we face."
Proven storage systems that replace Postharvest losses with marketing already exist in Ghana. Why not try Metal storage technology and even better Mobile metal storage bins?
Mobile storage bins
1. work for less than trucks and wagons which are too expensive to park and store on;
2. move (when they are empty) using integral wheels to where they are needed, unlike warehouses that may be empty because of diverse politics, shifting land ownership or climate change;
3. are sack friendly, but designed for bulk handling dry and clean cereals;
4. owner's know that storing harvest without losses and capturing the benefits of marketing is more meaningful than merely increasing yields with tractors, seed, pesticides or fertilizer.
