Minister Calls For Continuous Support From Development Partners

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has appealed to Ghana’s development partners to continue to extend an arm of support to the country, even though she admits the difficult times facing all countries globally.
Leading the Government delegation to mark the celebration of the National Days of Italy and Denmark at two separate functions, she recounted the long bond of mutual co-operation and collaboration between Ghana and the two countries on global issues. She also enumerated different forms of assistance Ghana has benefitted from Governments of Italy and Denmark.
Proposing the toasts at the two ceremonies, H.E. Laura Carpini and H.E. Carsten Nilaus Padersen (Ambassadors of Italy and Denmark respectively), commended the democratic successes of the country, and pledged their countries continued bilateral co-operation and support for accelerated development of Ghana.
In a related development, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has invited the Diplomatic Community and Corporate institutions in Ghana to support the country’s culture and creative arts sector, as well as the 2013 celebration of PANAFEST/Emancipation Day which will be celebrated from the 23rd of July – 3rd August 2013. This year’s celebration which also coincides with the 50th Anniversary celebration of the formation of the then Organisation of African Unity (now African Union) is under the theme: “Re- Uniting the African Family: Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance”.
The Minister made the appeal during separate courtesy calls on her by heads of some diplomatic missions in Ghana including the Lebanese, Italian and German Ambassadors, as well as the Nigerian High Commissioner and the High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago to Ghana and Nigeria.
Whereas the Italian and German Ambassadors expressed their readiness to help in the development of the culture and creative arts in Ghana, the other diplomats promised to support with the PANAFEST and Emancipation Day celebrations, as well as a National Tourism Photo Competition and Job Creation Programme that the Ministry will be organizing. Additionally, the High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago promised to facilitate for a steel band from his country to partake in, and boost the 2013 Carnival in Ghana slated for the 29th of July, 2013.
Receiving the Chinese Ambassador, Gong Jianzhong to her office, Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare commended China on the country’s current positioning in global geo-politics and its economic achievements. She said even though Ghana is a friendly and welcoming nation, it has laws and visitors and investors should endeavor to always respect them for mutual co-existence.
