So Kwesi, when you seek expert support to complement your own it is shemeful? Then you will live in shame for the rest of your life. The institution-building and transformation Ghana is slowly going through will sometimes require external support; not to replace internal capacity but to complement and help energise it. A media person who opts to pontificate on every subject like an overall expert, albeit with good intentions and a patriotic zeal, should understand this. And the sooner the better because Ghana, with Ghanaians at home and in the Diaspora, with our African brethren and our friends and partners in this global village will wait for no man(the women seem to understand better!!!)The mark of leadership includes recognising your strengths and deficits too, and more important, acting to address deficits which will further energise your strengths.

He is telling the truth. It's lack of confidence all right but it also states a fact. There is no professionalism in anything we do in Ghana. The evidence is there for all to see. President Mahama might be obliged to put the heat on everybody or begin firing them.
On the other hand, the Government will just waste money on foreign expertise because there's no possibility they (such expertise) could unravel the causes of those fires at all. In the US, markets don't burn. And investigations fail for the most part to tell the causes of private homes that have burnt.
An arsonist would know that by the time the fire catches on people would have been fast asleep and he would have been very far away, or at a good position to keep monitoring what happens or who comes to extinguish the fire.
Finally, if it is someone setting those fires, he would set several more without being caught unless people are placed at all the market centers.

Those who had to chat with him for one hour everyday, those Deputy Ministers who had to call him every morning before the man could even brush his teeth, and still those who would be called to the Castle by the late President to express his appreciation for job well done after they had gone to insult political opponents in the media on his behalf. Flying outside for medical treatment is individualistic and the cost borne by same. Those who cant afford it seeks local treatment. More so, if the said sickness requires special treatment we have no control or machines to fight, sometimes it behooves on government to intervene by flying the victim outside. However, seeking foreign intervention in fire out-breaks is of national concern and raises eye-brows as to where the government is focused. Is it a priority when we have various security agencies and bodies including the NFS-National Fire Service?

You and Kwesi Pratt either are ignorant or just displaying your stupidity.
Can you and Kwesi Pratt,Mr KNOW ALL give one example when Ghana Fire Service ever successfully investigate arson in the country and do you and Pratt know that it is not every security agency that can investigate arson?
When doctors were on strike was it not the same Kwesi Pratt who said the government should bring in more doctors from Cuba,up until today do we know what happened to Foreign Ministry building eventhough we had a so called committee?
Was Kwesi Pratt expecting the government to contact him before taking that decision or do what he likes but not what is in the interest of Ghanaians especially the victims?
Kwesi Pratt should know that Ghana Fire Service does not have the expertise to investigate fire outbreak, they will only waste our time.
The Americans are perfect in dealing with issues of fire and they will do the work without fear or favor, bringing them was what some of us have been saying all the time.
That said, I think the government should try as much as possible to get a Chief Fire Officer who is a professional fire officer instead of having a military man who might not got even basic training in that profession as Chief Fire Officer,it does not make sense to have something like that in such an organization.

You are equally a goon to the core, to the very marrow of your bones. How did the Americans become experts? Were they born with expertise? No! It was as a result of years of study, nationalism and the will to overcome. No one person in America is clandestinely given $51 Million of tax-payers money to go spend it "nyafu nyafuu" on self and party, and enjoys the protection of the government. Hell no! Patriotism enjoins them to use that resources to train their citizens to become experts in whatever field of endeavor to deal with such situations. Your government would be prudently applauded if it could send a delegation of young firemen for in-service training instead of wasting our left-over resources on bringing in Americans just to investigate and to be called again the next time and again. Think man! Think.

Corney, It is standard practice for the fire service to investigate and report on all major fires. The fact that these reports are not always published does not mean it does not exist. I feel bringing in the Americans is a total waste of money. We first have to ensure the previous recommendations of our local fire service should first be implemented. They have blamed the quality of our electrical wires due to age and cheap imports so the gov needs to show us what they have done so far to implement these recommendations before they start behaving like headless chickens.

If we have a Fire Service that cannot even investigate common arson, then I say, we really dont have a Fire Service at all.
A Fire Service is not just there to put out fires. The more important aspect of their job is to find out how fires occur and how to prevent them in the future. If our Fire Service cannot do this, then they should pack up so that when we have a fire, we should call upon Americans to come and put out the fire. What nonsense is this that is going on! Isnt there any sector in Ghana where there is some seriousness? It seems like the country is being run by 12 year old children.
I bet the Ghana Fire Service has a huge Board comprising all sorts of dumb political hangers-on enjoying fantastic glamorous hollwood-style perks instead of seeing to the development of the organization.
So since Kwame Nkrumah set up this Ghana Fire Service over 50 years ago, what have they been doing with themselves? And what have the politicians and govts since then been doing to improve this vital state organization apart from running around to get unqualified foot-soldiers employed in the service?
Now the question is, what can the best foreign arson investigator do to investigate arson in the typical chaotic African market situation? There are a million reasons that could cause a fire in any of our markets on any day. It is rather surprising that we dont have more fires than what we are dealing with. 90% of those reasons exist because we have equally useless City Mayors and Local Govt officials whose focus is rather to benefit personally from their offices instead of improving the environment.
Why can we not take ourselves and our country serious?

Kwesi Pratt must know that the frequent occurrence of the fire outbreaks has made the fire more suspicious. Those markets which were gutted by fire have been in existence for a long time - are "pre-historic", as Kwesi Pratt put it, himself - but they hadn't been engulfed in fire as between short spaces of time as now. Suffice it to say: THE FREQUENCY OF THE INCIDENCE MAKES IT MORE SUSPICIOUS.
On the question of asking an American forensic expertise to help trace the source, the request is, definitely, NOT a spite towards the Ghanaian security services. If anything, it complements the local efforts. Besides, it is normal for a country to seek help from another to deal with an incident, however, well equipped! There are many examples, which, I am sure, the seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt, is aware of.

Why is this fire happening in the evening every time? Ghana will always remain backward if we continue to entertain this nonsense. The enemies will strike again. We have no single idea on how to deal with terrorists not to talk of Ghana version of Boko Haram. You see what's currently going on in Nigeria now all because the president listened to people like u. The real issue is this;Tell the politicians to let the professionals do their job. When some politician who has no idea what the chemistry of fire is opens his mouth and concludes that a fire outbreak is the work of his opponents,it immediately takes the investigation of the outbreak out of the forensic realm.
Since the spate of the fire outbeaks has any Fire Service Official been contacted to offer his professional opinion? Instead we have the situation where all sorts of ascerbic tongued fresh minted politicians are all over the place accusing their opponents of arson. We have allowed politics to permeate every institution in this country to the extent that the professionals are afraid to speak their mind lest they be branded as belonging to the opposite camp. This country is being gradually destroyed by the politicians. When a huge city like Accra has less than ten fire trucks in total, no one will tell you that we lack equipment. The other thing is the sophistication of the methods used by the perpetrators. This is what will give the game away.

Why is everything about God in Ghana?
Would Pratt have condemned the decision if was the Cubans that were invited?
