It is nice to have these projects create jobs. However, once finished, will the general population patronize? Remember, the Asian tigers had these building booms and later the condos, shopping malls and office buildings were empty. Maybe smaller well done strip malls might work better. Just a thought.

The traffic in that area is bad now. With the mall, it will be hell ! As usual the government has NO PLAN to take care of traffic or security, just build, build and build. CHAOS COUNTRY !

Too sad how we complain negatively about everything. This nature of the Ghanaian is the worst enemy to our development, and not the devil.

It will create a multiplier effect because of backward, forward and lateral linkages. Many poultry, vegetable and craft industries in Ghana will be supplying to the mall and transporters like taxis will have business. Kudos!

I think it's time the Ghanaian reeducate himself and learn new trades that will develop the country.
Do not compare Ghana to the US yet. Henry Ford got a lot of people off of shear cropping into the assembly lines and the rest as they say, is history.
Mom and Pops stores and mafias educated their kids to become engineers, lawyers and scientists.
In Ghana, 90% of buy and sell is run by badly educated and illiterates.
For Ghana to move on, these crowd selling in the streets and in ugly stores need to be retrained and re educated to fill the new factories yet to be built.
Ghana is in deficit of 25,000 medical doctors, 15,000 specialist surgeons,100,000 nurses,200,000 specialist teachers,30,000 designers, 300,000 skilled iron workers,20,000 super bad scientists, 0 pastors, 50,000 world class artists and writers and many more.
This's no time for buy and sell when all these brains are needed on board for us to take off.
'am sorry partner.

To be honest this project is just a CREATE AND SHARE investment. It will end up being a white elephant. Our funds held by SSNIT are not properly managed. My humble advice is that monies collected by SSNIT will be safer in long term fixed cash investments than all the rubbish they are littering about in the name of investment. Look at all the structures they have put up they will be due for massive renovation and another opportunity will be created to blow more cash. I have collected my SSNIT cash but if I look at the returns on my investment for 25 years it would have been profitable to have invested in a bag of rice because by now I would have been richer by 999 bags. The SSNIT as is being run now is just a scam.

Go to Accra mall and ask them if they're making profit or not, and they'll look at you crazy.

I actually read that Accra Mall merchants are quite disappointed in the revenue they are getting. The "Mall" system may not necessarily be the best for Ghana. There might be another model that works better.

The new Accra is Weija and Kasoa, that's where most of the young urban workers live, so building a big mall at a place like that is the way to go.
Cantoments, Airport et al are becoming business hubs and residences for foreigners, so kudos to SSNIT for thinking ahead of time and putting up this mall.

Also Ama, I do not know whether you are a staff of SSNIT. If you are kindly advice your bosses to think of putting up the Kaneshie Market type of structure on that land. The area is a big market and a modern 2000 to 3000 stall edifice with effective management will produce quicker returns than this mall. Afterall the mall will create a hub for imported goods with little Ghanaian made goods.

I am an employer of 10 staff including two managers of 15 years each managerial experience. It appears persons like you reason that when people react to uneconomic long term institutional policies they cannot be contested. Ama like I said, I have collected my benefits lump sum but I think I was given a raw deal that is why I think in the short term say the next five years contributors' monies should be put into high yield cash investments for low risk, faster and higher yields. I see all these high rise buildings put up SSNIT for example as waste. Go to Cape Coast and the other regions and see the occupancy rate. In Accra the structures put up do not have too satisfactory occupancy. It takes God knows ages before people occupy them. Even then, there are very few long term occupants as I speak now, so please don't just assume we all are ignorant and useless writers. At least the way you write you sound like somebody who can be my daughter so Ama please don't under rate persons. Thank you.

If this is true then, I think SSNIT this time is putting our money to good investment. SSNIT should therefore come out to tell us how much this will benefit its contributors.
