My friend Fela says, before Nigeria man go see say Geisha na fish, Ghanaman go don finisham! My Dear Reader, its interesting to read the above article. But one cannot understand why Britain will ignore Africa, Ghana in particular! Its a pity that Britain is not opening up with Ghana. Britain knows where oil, gold, diamond, manganese, iron, etc, etc, is located in this country called Ghana. You see, the Chinese has now invaded Ghana, same as the Italians, Indians, Pakistanese, Lebanese, Dutch and now South Americans. Why? Because of the potential richness in the land. The British now that there is GOLD in the beaches of Ghana, but they will never mention. So lets see who will suffer.
If the British will not invest in Ghana or involve in the emerging economy which other countries are now benefitting in this God-blessed-country, however creating big opportunity for their children and grand children, they will finally chop bones or the remains. By the time they will realize, the Chinese have already taken everything.

Do we understand what impact an increase in UK exports to Ghana will have on our balance of payments? We should be more interested in an increase in ghanaian exports to the UK.

Widespread violence as a reason for divestment/non-investment is true only for a handful of African countries (DR Congo, Eritrea), and, even then, uncontrolled insurgencies give Western weapons manufacturers an opening for increased gun exports.
But terrorist violence and kidnappings are only pretexts for disinvestment. Western countries and the US only invest in nations where
(1) profit is an obvious, nearly, sure thing -- or --
(2) the local government is weak and can be bribed or intimidated to make the venture profitable.
The Westerners don't know how to make a profit in Africa without total control of both production and local government.
