I'm still a proud member of NDC - Woyome

Businessman Alfred Woyome says he still remains a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite efforts by some members to have him disgraced.

Mr. Woyome is currently in court battling the state over allegations he received an amount in excess of GHS51m as judgment debt, for doing no work.

Mr Woyome was reacting to a Daily Graphic 10th May publication which reported that the businessman had lost an appeal which sought to prevent the state from introducing evidence of fraud in the payment of GHS51.2m to him.

According to the publication, “Woyome had appealed against the Commercial Court’s February 29, 2012 decision to allow the state to introduce evidence of fraud on the grounds that the trial judge erred in law in granting the state the permission almost two years after the state had filed suit to retrieve the money paid Woyome”.

However, according to the publication, the Court upheld the decision for the state to introduce the evidence. But according to Woyome, the story was misleading.

He reiterated his view that there were some elements in the NDC seeking to disgrace him, saying the Daily Graphic publication reinforces his claim.

Mr Woyome affirmed his membership in the NDC, stating “NDC as a political party has not come against me. I am still a member of [the] party and a proud member because I am a social democrat”.

He told journalists at his residence on Friday, “if today NDC departs from social democracy I am no longer a member”.
