Our chiefs, pastors, politicians, bureaucrats, economic agents have all failed. But because of the "false"kinship affiliations--we as a nation have not been able to tackled the "cancer" at the macro level.
At the macro-political level--we have accepted the narrative of the chief vampires (the ruling class) to blame our problems on our neighbors: Ashantis, Ewes, etc.
So the NPP and NDC and other elites continue to lead the exploitation bandwagon and have poisoned our minds to accept a false narrative-of tribalism. And it is even sad to see educated folk buy into the hogwash.

Yes there is need to address the root causes and not the symptoms because we now face a social divide created by greedy politicians with some greedy bureaucrats and professionals. We need a systemic change or a transformational leadership with a mission to clean the Aegean stables, as it were.

Thanks for great article, I have lived in the US for some time now, there is one observation that contrast sharply, and that is integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, and truthfulness, these are essential ingredients of any functioning democracy, but this is where Ghanaians fall short. When the article mentioned all the vices including corruption and armed robbery, it is clear that the source of this behavior and mindset is lack of integrity. In the US, these values constitute the fundamental teachings of the children in the elementary schools, conscious efforts are made to generate interest in one’s self worth and creativity, sizable percentage of this kids grow up to become great men of integrity, very competent leaders and hardworking workforce. In gh all is not lost, we need to begin to teach our children the importance of these values and insist through parent teacher associations to ensure these values are giving prominence. The areas in government that are crucial for integrity and trustworthiness, are the judiciary and law enforcement, If the heads of these sectors want to do a good job, they can begin to organize periodic workshops to continue incentivizing integrity, it could be our down payment to recovery.

Mr. Srome, integrity, honesty and hard work, trustworthiness have not been the yardstick in the history of the U.S. and current "functioning democracy".
Was there integrity, honesty and hard work in racial segregation, forceful export of opium, lies of weapons of mass destruction and calling other presidents who are not your doll dictators, when in actual fact you support monarchies, which do not have even a parliament in their country.
Of course there is armed robbery and all sorts of get rich quick schemes in the U.S. and other capitalist countries and the most of all is the export and import of opium and its related products.
The other one is the overt and covert means to seize the natural resources of countries with the aid of criminals in that country under the the ruse of democracy, which is not different from armed robbery. The case here is that the armed robber is the state, NATO and their armed forces, with the support of their news agencies, more dangerous than little band of armed robbers without a mouth piece.
The writer wrote that it is the capitalist socioeconomic system which we adopted that brought in the system of corruption, armed robbery and a judiciary and bar which support the crime, which is not different from what existed and exists in advanced capitalist countries.
It was the same advanced capitalist countries that introduced and defended the system of racial segregation, fascism, apartheid and the opium trade, which is not different from armed robbery. Britain, Holland and U.S. waged war on countries seize their territories for the production of opium; we refer to Afghanistan, Columbia and Mexico. Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt were used to export the illicit drug by those advanced countries we mentioned and the case is not different today. Formally the U.S. and her allies use their own armed forces to occupy those countries and promote the trade. Now it is being done through the Talibans, Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda in the Magreb, Boko Haram and other Islamic terrorist organizations.
People who use drugs can not perform any productive work and can not use their brain for any productive activity, rather than armed robbery.
It is a fact that there is less crime in the few remaining socialist countries were it is greater even in countries which just adopted the market economy. The prime minister of Russia lamented that 70% of that country's school going population is on drugs and wherever there is drug trade their is also a corresponding crime, murder and armed robbery, as is the case in Afghanistan, Iraq, Mexico, Columbia, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia now.
We have proved that crime is part and parcel of the capitalist system as it is supported by the executive, legislature, judiciary, security services and the mass media.
The lie of Amina in Ghana was spread by some people in the legislature, spread by the mass media, supported and defended by the judiciary and the bar.
It is therefore only a socialist socioeconomic system that can effectively fight crime, since the executive, legislature and security services do not gain from it, but rather lose their credibility.

Unless the rich THIEVES in positions of authority ( in politics as well as in other public service ranks ) decide to change their corrupt activities, LAWLESSNESS will prevail in Ghana.
The THIEVES, who have stolen money from the resources of the country cannot enjoy the mansions they have built in exclusive locations. Armed robbers will keep on harassing them.
THEIR MANSIONS WILL BE REAL FORTIFED PRISONS !!!
THE THIEVES WILL LIVE IN PERPETUAL FEAR AND WILL NOT HAVE ANY PEACE OF MIND.
CONGRATULATIONS to Kobina Antobam. We need more articles of this calibre on Ghanaweb.
