The spores can live for decades up to centuries so without the proper treatment and personnel to administer, the dead carcass should be burnt and all associated items with it. The above is preferable to burial which would just incubate the spores until the burial ground is disturbed. However if there are trained personnel’s and proper cure to disinfect the area and the humans who have got in contact even the better. For the fact that this keeps coming back every year means an extensive study need to be conducted there to expose the areas affected for disinfection ASAP. It is air borne so can be inhaled; it can be passed by contact with the skin which will cause skin lesions and also by eating infected animals. The cows and sheep can pick up the spores into their digestive system whilst grazing on infected areas, whilst the spores can be collected on their furs and on the clothes, shoes and equipments of the herders.

One can assume that this deadly disease could be due to the recent flooding of Fulani refugees and cattle from Burikina. Some have had been infected with anthrax. Above people must shun eating dead cacasses.

I strongly agree with Mumuni Seidu. From my observation Sapeliga s a heavily Kusasis populated area and they enjoy eating beef and dog meat, dead or alife dogs and cows. I am worried for the populate of Bawku West and immediate public health education must ensue with immediate. This a challenge to the local MP and the DCE. This is no joke as anthrax speads like wild fire.

Please nursing student, check your facts befoe you halo in this forum. Sapelliga is not a 'heavily Kusasis populated area'. The people of Sapelliga are predominantly Bisas (Busangas), with a significant population of guansis. Guansis, to which the Ayagiba family belongs, are NOT Kusasis. Only a few Kusasis have settled in and around Sapelliga.
