The over 20 years of work against corruption has been reversed by 8 years of NPP rule by Kufour who turned the Castle former seat of Government to a den of corruption as revealed by the former NPP chairman and the Hotel Wawa saga not to talk of all the stealings that went on under the so called Presidential initiative. What people dont know when the government gives money it does get to the regions and people use the names of regions to get contracts to supply them but never do, but pocket the money.
We should know what the government is giving every region. Its the district officers should have they fair share from the region.
People think the northern regions are poor, NO they are not, their share of the nations weath is allocated like any other region but the share of the north end up in pockets in Accra. Everybody wants to live in accra because of that.
Paliament cant stop corruption, YOU CAN. Its you duty to ask questions and get answas from you regional minister and you

When he defended Woyome and stood stern against accusation that he own many gas stations did he advocate appointment of an independent prosecutor to look into it ? When it became known all over the nation and abroad that Hanna Bissiw was trying to smuggle $9 million dollars out of the country through a priest who was caught at the Kotoka Airport did any of our law enforcement agencies step out to deal with it ? Is it not a slap in the national face that such aperson has been appointed to a high level ministerial position ?
Ofosu Ampofo was known during the campaign to have ditributed thousands of cedis as bait money for votes. Did any Law enforcement agency care to think where these huge sums of money were coming from, knowing his yearly salary and benefits as a public official ?

The entire nation needs an overhaul - from the President down to the toll both collector, through the ranks of the courts, the police, MPs, Harbour personnel, you name it ....... All are thieves bleeding Ghana to death. There is no defense for them folks - whether you are from NPP, NDC,PPP,CPP or ABCDEF - open your eyes folks, we are sinking together.

Kofi, I strongly disagree with your analysis. First of all, none of these Parliamentarians were held at gunpoint to contest elections. In other words, it was a personal decision. Being a Parliamentarian comes with a degree of sacrifice and commitment. Yours is to serve your constituency and see to their welfare, not constantly demand more emoluments.

In Ghana, members of Parliament do not care about their constituencies once they are elected - rather, these wolves in sheep clothing see this as an opportunity to make as much money as they can and thus be able to live in opulence after their "Honourable" gold mining expedition in Parliament.

We cannot afford to drop our guard and allow these jokers to hold Mother Ghana to ransom - and you Kofi of all people ought to know better.

We don't own these crooks anything.Like PKA wisely suggested, nobody put a gun to their stupid heads to serve our country.That decision was theirs and theirs alone.And it comes with an implied sacrifice.We don't have to cede to some ridiculous constitutional provision to pay these vultures lump sums of money after they woefully fail to attend to the basic needs of our people.And to have this twerp suggest that we compensate them well for jobs undone is an insult to well meaning Ghanains.

corruption is from. within a person and not from without. paying a person. huge sums to stop edge them. to desist from being corrupt will not solve the problem. if. anyone demands more pay with the excuse that it will help check him from from being corrupt know ye that that one is unwilling to change from his old evil ways. leadership is a sacrifice which a person takes upon himself to help others so if you are not willing to sacrifice then you are of no use to the people. therefore there is no gaurantee that when you earn more, money will change your attitude of corrupt malpractices. let m remind you again that corruption is from within and you dont need more money to fight corruption. what you need is a good attitude, principles and intergrity. without these attributes a person is worthless. so you cant deceive as that parliamentarians will not be currupt if their wage bill is increased, afterall man has insatiable wants hence you need to be contempt with what you have and look around and have pitty on the next man who cant afford a meal. learn to help others and stop being selfish. foooolz

Authorities have announced that Shearen holds the dubious distinction of downloading the most child porn in the State of Florida. In fact, Shearen was at his computer downloading more videos as agents with the FDLE arrived at this residence to place him under arrest. Authorities estimate that they seized between 500,000 to 1 million images and videos on a variety of computers, external hard drives, and DVDs. Agents also recovered children's underwear at Shearen's residence which he told them he wears. According to Special Agent Jeff Duncan with the FDLE, Shearen "is the No. 1 person that can distribute child pornography throughout the world. And he's been doing it."

"Valerie Sloan was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department in Arkansas on April 1, 2013 and charged with 128 counts of felony fraud to obtain drugs, obstructing governmental operations, and refusing to submit to arrest. She is a medical doctor and is accused of writing fake prescriptions to herself for powerful pain medications. The owner of a local pharmacy, Mike Soo, grew suspicious of Sloan. He reportedly did a little investigative work on his own and discovered that Sloan was the person who had been picking up prescriptions for the past year under the name Kim Robertson.

Soo notified the police of his discovery and advised that "Sloan would come in about every 2-3 days to pick up a prescription and would always attempt to wear a baseball cap or scarf as if to hide her identity." He agreed to call police the next time she attempted to fill a prescription which she did on April 1, 2013. When first questioned by police, she allegedly provide two different names and dates of birth. After placing her under arrest, investigators obtained pharmacy records showing that Sloan used her alias to call in 128 different prescriptions since January 2012. Sloan was booked into the Craighead County Detention Center and released after posting bond. Her next court date is scheduled for April 26, 2013."

This article is well written but it seems unfortunate that we have to reward greed rather than service amd love of Ghana for Parliamentarians and government officials to work faithfully, dedicatedly, selflessly and corruption-free to protect the public purse and the interests of the Ghana nation. A nation whose leaders think only of what they can get not what they can do for it, to paraphrase J. F. Kennedy, is a lost nation. Such a mind-set only leads to the pillaging of the nation. It is no wonder phoney agreements are signed to sell off its resources to highest bidders, whenever our leaders, doctors, nurses teachers, sivil servants, etc. are not given chop-chop. What kind of nationals are such a bunch? If the writer is right, the future for Ghana will never be bright and its prospects will always be dim. The industrialized worlds were built on deidcation and service and the rewards came after they succeed in building, and sometime rebuilding, sound and responsible national fabrics and ethics. We in Ghana are saying give us to chop big, even when there is little to go around, before we can build a sound responsible nation founded on good ethics to protect the public resources. Is is a pity.

Their sole objective into going into politics is to serve themselves,exploit their political contacts to enrich themselves and family and pay lip service to democracry.

Boy do I disagree with the premise by which Kofi Thompson wrote this piece. Given the fact that every Tom, Dick and Harry with Ghanaian blood running through him is a cognoscente of the pelf domineering world of our politicians, it is risible to think that large emoluments will turn them into Snow white politicians. In fact, a perusal of our political players renders Mr. Thompson’s thesis a non sequitur to his laid down fallacy. What Mr. Thompson has forgotten is that the old aphorism; “Power Corrupts and Corrupts Absolutely” is very well and alive in Ghana Politics. Do we have to assign the heavily paid politicians to REHAB programs for them to become pious? I doubt that. The mendacious atmosphere under which these politicians are elected begets bigots, corrupt, hubristic, pompous, arrogant, ethnocentric players whose sole aim is the pursuit of opulence. I challenge Mr. Kofi Thompson to dig deep and give us the name of ONE politician who is without blemish and has the potential of doing right if he/she is handsomely paid.
