I am amazed at the political twist that has been put to the president paying tax. It is some of these useless commments and criticisms which are making lots of Ghanaians shy away from some simple things that they ought to do. In one breadth, it is said the president was ought of time, in another he is said to have broken rules by engaging in profit making ventures. Law is not interpreted by simple minds. They are done by persons who can purposively and pragmaticlally relate to issues. The constitution says that "“The President Shall not while he continues in office as President, hold any other office of profit or emolument whether private or public or whether directly or indirectly”.
Has the president held any other office. Does paying tax on gifts given him or paying on proceeds from his publications amount to holding another office? The most nauseating aspect of this former MP's argument is when he says that “the President might have broken a lot of laws by this action”. Which other laws has the president infracted. Please lets get serious. This man who could come out and publicly disgrace the wife by saying that the wife had gonorrhoea cannot be very correct up there!!!

If article 68 says a president while in office shall not hold any other office that is profit making; my question is when a writer writes a book, is the writing of a book an office? Is receiving gifts an office? Can he re-read that article and apply it correctly? See how he is betraying his low IQ in public just because he wants to open his mouth at all cost. Is that the brain he claims to be? Even if at all, the president wrote his book and published it before being elected as a president and it is only befitting for him to be sincere to us Ghanaians. Is this move a way to hid their own failure to pay taxes or their doing it out of hatred. I'm beginning to understand the kind of intellectuals we claim to have in our NPP party. It is a shame our so called leaders and aluminas present themselves idiots before the public. Though I'm no friend of the president, I think he should be praised for what he has done. Good is good and there is no way, you can change it to be bad. Let us be objective in our criticism because our children are learning from us! I will rather admonish the president to refuse all gifts now that he is president for fear of being bribed and that could be a big crime in our eyes, but he cannot stop selling his book

I presume we all understand the reason why Jesus said the sabbath was made for man and not man for the sabbath. If someone is being honest and paying tax for any extra income, what is wrong with it. Will Hon MP refuse his gratuity if part of the money is coming from the tax the President paid because he broke the constitution. Let us rather use this to encourage Ghanaians to pay their taxes instead of discouraging people. The President may be wrong but he is performing is duty as a responsible citizen.

Today, the president released his 2010 federal income and gift tax returns. He and the first lady filed their income tax return jointly and reported an adjusted gross income of $1,728,096.
The vast majority of the family's income is the proceeds from the sale of the president's books. The Obamas paid $453,770 in total federal tax.
The president and first lady also reported donating $245,075 -- or about 14.2% of their adjusted gross income -- to 36 different charities.
CAPTION
By Eileen Blass, USAT

The president and first lady also released their Illinois income tax return and reported paying $51,568 in state income taxes.
The vice president and Dr. Jill Biden also released their 2010 federal income tax returns, as well as state income tax returns for both Delaware and Virginia.
They filed joint federal and Delaware income tax returns. Dr. Biden filed a separate non-resident tax return for the state of Virginia.
